WETHERBY 4.35

THE Magic Bishop got back to best when landing a 3m chase in the mud at Carlisle in October. Largely respectable efforts since, a mistake at the 12th costing him dear last time. Place claims on a good day.

Forzy Origny has been miles short of useful best when lightly campaigned in recent years. Yet to achieve much for current stable and opposable despite tumbling down the handicap.

Fortysecond Street landed a 25f Hexham handicap on final start for Howard Johnson in April 2011, but has failed to complete in 3 runs for this yard, most recently last month. Headgear tried but hard to fancy.

Humphrey Bee is a winning pointer. Recovered from heavy fall on chase debut in October to finish fair third at Doncaster in February. Well held turned out quickly next time but can do better now handicapped.

Global Flyer won 4 times last season, including twice here. Out of sorts this time round, however, and even latest fourth was a laboured effort. Step back up in trip needs to help.

Franklin Roosevelt was blinkered when winning handicap hurdle last spring for Warren Greatrex and comes here chasing a hat-trick after wins at Southwell and Leicester. Should continue to give a good account.

Fog Patches improved with cheekpieces applied, winning at Hexham (2½m) and Perth (3m) during the summer. Runner-up on last 2 starts and should continue to go well off this sort of mark.

Western Gale cashed in off sliding mark over C&D 2 years ago. Good third in Durham National next time, but ended that campaign with 2 lesser runs and not seen for 626 days.

Classic Cut got back to form second comeback run following a couple of years on the sidelines when fourth at Kelso (23f) in December. Similar form when third at Carlisle last month but jumped poorly latest.

Badgers Retreat was twice runner-up in 2½m novice hurdles in November 2011, but little impact since, and well held on chasing bow in January. This more suitable but jury out for now.

Boris The Blade jumped enthusiastically from the front when snapping a losing sequence at Newcastle in December. Has failed to complete all 4 outings since, however, and plenty to prove for now.

Blazing Bull is a winning pointer who was off mark at second time of asking in handicap chases at Catterick (25f) last month. Scored over shorter here 3 weeks later and return to this trip a big plus. Progressive.

Roi De Garde got back to winning ways in C&D handicap in November. Well held at Market Rasen next time but shouldn’t be judged too harshly on latest run in jumpers bumper. One to consider.

1. Blazing Bull 4.5 / 7-2
2. Roi De Garde 12.0 / 11-1
33. Fog Patches 6.8 / 6-1

Verdict: Blazing Bull is progressing steadily and he should be well suited by the return to a longer trip this time. He can complete his hat-trick at the main expense of Roi de Garde and Fog Patches.
