WHAT A WELCOME (3.40) has the appearance of a three-year-old on an upwards curve and can defy top weight in the 1m 4f Betway Apprentice Handicap at Lingfield.

The son of Nathaniel finished strongly to run out a cosy winner over 1m 2f  here 19 days ago and this extra yardage could eke out a little more improvement.

There is a good turnout for the Betway Handicap and MIDDLE KINGDOM (2.10) could be another top weight to oblige.

John Gosden’s colt beat useful duo Euginio and Bin Battuta at Newmarket back in April but was off the course for 204 days before making his reappearance at Chelmsford City 12 days ago.

Middle Kingdom was a bit short of room early in the straight before finishing a close-up third to Plutonian and should be a little sharper today. Stall 2 is a good draw.
