UAE KING (4.20) can make full use of his three-year-old allowance in the 2m Listed contest on the opening day at Newmarket.
Roger Varian’s son of Frankel was in scintillating form during high summer, recording successive victories at Haydock, Sandown and Ascot before the bubble burst when running third to the Queen’s progressive Call To Mind at Goodwood. That was still a useful effort and he meets some exposed older horses like Nearly Caught and Arch Villain, who have been around the block a few times.
TORCELLO (4.55) can resume winning ways in the 1m 4f handicap.
His winning sequence hit the buffers in a hot Heritage Handicap on unsuitable soft ground at Ascot when only sixth to Duke Of Bronte, but the form of his previous success at Newmarket in August is mustard. Runner-up Lunar Jet romped home at Goodwood yesterday, while the third horse Ply hosed up at Kempton on Monday.
Jaameh has been very consistent this summer since beating the likes of Byron Flyer, Cape Cova and Nakeeta over 1m 6f at HQ in June and looks best of the older horses. First-time blinkers are applied.
SUMMER CHORUS (3.10) should make a good fist of defying top weight in the fillies’ handicap.
She has an enviable record at Newmarket, with form figures at the track in the last 12 months reading 1-3-3-1-0-3-2. Andrew Balding sent Summer Chorus to Chelmsford City for her latest outing and she was narrowly denied by Big Tour. Fifth home Peak Princess is held on that run.
KNIGHT OWL (5.30) has been lightly raced this season and Hughie Morrison’s gelding would ideally want some ease underfoot.
He was well fancied for last year’s Cambridgeshire but made no show. Knight Owl isn’t badly treated these days and George Wood takes off 3lb.
Rigoletto will be well touted on the back of his all-the-way success at Chepstow but an 8lb rise makes life harder in this higher grade.
