SILVESTRE De Sousa goes to Lingfield this evening for one ride, HOLIDAY MAGIC (6.55) in a competitive mile handicap.
Mick Easterby has been a master planner for more years than I care to remember and Bosham landed some tasty wagers for the yard on Easterby’s last Lingfield sortie.
Holiday Magic has had one look at the track, running seventh in a hot handicap last April, but his mark has dropped 8lb in the interim. He used to be a bit of a tearaway and paid the penalty 12 months ago when trying to make all at a blistering gallop.
The grey is ridden a tad more conservatively these days and looked to have the race in the bag when hitting the front inside the final furlong at Southwell last time, only to be swallowed up by Hammer Gun’s remarkable late thrust having been tailed off.
Holiday Magic was ridden perfectly well by a 7lb claimer that day but having SDS in the saddle can make a vital difference. Clearly Mr Easterby feels the same way and stall two is perfect.
Hopefully there are no traffic problems as De Sousa rides Corazon Espinado in the 5.00 at nearby Epsom.
EMBLAZONED (7.25) is one for favourite backers in the 7f Novice Stakes.
John Gosden’s gelding found only Qaysar too strong on his debut at Kempton and the winner won at Newbury at the weekend off a 90 rating. That sets a good standard in maiden company.
I hesitate to put anything up at Perth as my jumps form last week was nothing short of criminal. Fortune favours the brave, or so they say, so here goes.
This hasn’t been a stellar season for Venetia Williams but she has been among the winners recently and LONGHOUSESIGNORA (2.00) can make the haul north pay off.
The six-year-old chased home David Pipe’s Miss Tynte in a similar contest at Ludlow earlier this month and the winner was sent off favourite for a stronger Class 2 contest at Ayr last week. Although only seventh to Naranja, penalised Miss Tynte didn’t appear to stay the longer 3m distance and this race looks a bit easier for Longhousesignora.
Jacqui Stephen could strike for Scotland in the curtain-raiser in which she saddles LOVELY SCHTUFF (1.30).
The gelding ran very well at Carlisle, leading before the home turn and only giving way on the run to the last flight behind Going Gold and Donna’s Delight. There are a couple of better-fancied southern raiders to help make the market and Lovely Schtuff is my idea of a solid each-way punt.
Old boy JET MASTER (3.10) returns to action in the 3m handicap chase following a 101-day break.
Nick Alexander’s gelding was beaten less than a length by Beeves and Cultram Abbey in this race last year and is now 3lb lower. The ground was riding good last April but today’s much deeper surface will suit Jet Master, a winner here over hurdles last September on heavy. Again, there are stronger-fancied rivals in the line-up, so he’ll go off at attractive each-way odds.

Fantastic tipping yet again.
Day 1 didn’t go to plan and today is another tough card.
I’ve gone for 3 only as I can’t make my mind up on the others so will decide later if I will have a go or not
3.40 MAN OF PLENTY 20/1 EW 1/5th 6 places
Maybe I’m missing something but current fav Crossed my Minds last run was in jan when he finished 6th 24L behind MOP who was 4th.
MOP also has a 3lb swing in his favour. MOP also ran a cracker lto when 4th in the Imperial Cup and I just have to believe he’s value at that price.
6.05 Dorking Boy 16/1 EW
The Lacey yard continues to perform really well and he sends this one over having won impressively fto. Big step up in class but should have more to come and hopefully can Nick a place.
6.40 SHANAHANS TURN 13/2 NAP
Tizzard won this race last year and ST should go close if repeating his run at Aintree. He’s also a previous C&D winner

John, where has disgraced Irish jockey Darren Egan gone since his 12 year ban? He was touted as the next big thing on the flat but unfortunately fell victim to corruption
Never heard anything about him
hope this helps john

Johnb i need to thank you for having one of my favourite bookmakers closing my account after following your tip well why not at navan on sunday at the 20-1 i got lol. I have had 3 bookmakers do this in the last 6 months. I know the bookies don’t like how i bet as i only bet singles and never back under 2-1 on horses and 1-1 on football. Can i ask do you have problems placing a bet online?
I am thinking my only option is to use the betfair exchanges which i am not a fan of unless when i’m laying a bet as we don’t get best odds guaranteed.
Excellent tipping of late btw john. Thanks.
That’s the problem bookies aren’t bookies anymore, but I personally have never had a problem

after looking at the replay of the 6-40 from punchestown yesterday about 20 times ,i just cant understand what the hell paul townend was doing ,anything come to light yet
Paul Townend has moved to explain his dramatic last-fence manoeuvre on Al Boum Photo in Tuesday’s Growise Novice Chase at Punchestown by confirming he thought he heard a call and that the fence was being bypassed.
In darting to his right on Willie Mullins’ charge just before the fence when he was in front and seemingly with the race at his mercy, Townend also took Finian’s Oscar out of the race. The rider ended up on the deck when Al Boum Photo crashed through the wing, leaving the way clear for the Gordon Elliott-trained The Storyteller to win.
“I thought I heard a shout and that the last fence was being bypassed, It was a split-second reaction. I wish to apologise to connections and to punters. I’d like to leave this behind me and move on with today’s rides.”
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board was criticised for not providing any significant detail following the inquiry on Tuesday evening. However, on Wednesday morning the regulator published a secondary report.
“In his evidence, Paul Townend said that he was riding with his head down between the last two fences and heard roaring on his left which caught his attention,” it read.
“He thought he had to bypass the fence but didn’t know which side to bypass on. He panicked and commenced his move to bypass
the fence on the right side but then realised there was nothing on the fence to indicate a bypass was needed and tried to correct his actions but it was too late.
“He accepted in hindsight that there were no bypass procedures in place. He said he made a genuine mistake and apologised for what occurred.”
cheers for that reply johnb
you have to feel sorry for finians Oscar in all this he surely would have ran a decent ride if not for this
agree with you buzzer he was running a big race, but i still think paul townend would have won if not making the mistake he did,
a great day for Paul Townend with a 54/1 treble. what a difference a day makes.
See clemmie is no longer in the betting for the 1000 guineas. Anyone got a link to o brien confirming this
