SEPAL (4.45) can boost the betting bank for York’s four-day Ebor meeting later this week by scoring at Thirsk.
Iain Jardine’s filly hacked up at Ayr and it is hard to imagine we’ll see an easier winner all season. Sepal, recruited from the Charlie Hills stable, simply toyed with his admittedly modest rivals and was clearly right at home on the rain-softened surface.
There was the promise of more to come and Callum Rodriguez’s 5lb allowance virtually negates Sepal’s fixed penalty. I’ll be surprised, and considerably poorer, if Sepal doesn’t beat another penalised winner Clenymistra.
Rodriguez has another potential winner in MELABI (5.15), a course and distance scorer off the same handicap rating back in April. Richard Ford’s gelding returned from a short break to run a perfectly respectable sixth to Alexander M in a slightly better contest at Chester.
SOVEREIGN BOUNTY (3.15) can make a bold bid to repeat last year’s victory in the mile handicap. Graham Lee again takes the reins and his mount is only 5lb higher than 12 months ago. Sovereign Bounty’s best run this summer probably came at Beverley when slightly hampered two out before running on into third spot behind El Principe and Saint Equiano.
O’Keefe also saddles Nottingham winner Whitkirk, but Sovereign Bounty is preferred at a bigger price from stall one.

Cheers Alan that was very impressive the further she went better she looked looks a very well handicapped filly
Pity the price collapsed when the second fav was pulled out but she did it well.
Well done today Alan Sepal was an easy winner.
Sorry about the price, but Sepal’s odds collapsed when the second favourite was pulled out
A win’s a win – another good shout.
