ODE TO AUTUMN (7.15) is one to follow now going handicapping and John Gosden's three-year-old can justify favouritism at Newcastle this evening.
The top weight made all over course and distance last month to dismiss two rivals with aplomb. He is closely matched with Chingachgook on their running behind Maverick Officer at Lingfield over seven furlongs but looks the stronger stayer over this extra distance.
GASSIN GOLF (1.20) doesn't win very often but has dropped to an attractive mark in the opener at Sandown.
Kerry Lee saddled another winner yesterday and Gassin Gold has run some of his best races at this track. The latest solid effort came in early January when Gassin Golf chased home useful Call Me Lord and Our Merlin on heavy ground. Fourth horse Brillare Memento came out to win decisively at Towcester and Richard Patrick is a good booking for Gassin Golf in this conditional riders' handicap.
