KING’S PROCTOR (3.20) was the horse that finished a distant runner-up to yesterday’s Classic Trial winner Sevenna Star when they lined up 12 days ago at Windsor but he doesn’t meet anything of that calibre at Leicester.
Mark Johnston’s colt had previously got off the mark in a Nottingham maiden with one of today’s rivals, Artarmon, six lengths adrift in third. The fact that King’s Proctor was conceding 7lb to Sevenna Star underlines his impossible task at Windsor and Ryan Moore has been booked.
KIMBERELLA (2.45), better known during his illustrious career as an out-and-out sprinter, took the step up to seven furlongs in his stride at Thirsk and the eight-year-old should make a bold bid to plunder the totepool King Richard III Stakes.
Kimberella was very brave from the front, beating off challenges from So Beloved and Above The Rest. Richard Fahey’s gelding was conceding 7lb to the useful runner-up, while Above The Rest is 3lb worse off for his two lengths defeat.
Likely favourite Emmaus is a course and distance winner having beaten Sir Dancealot on the nod in October on similar ground. He was in receipt of 10lb and this looks a slightly stiffer task.
There are some fiendishly difficult Saturday handicaps to unravel but the other two I’ll put up come under orders this evening.
At Doncaster, CASIMA (7.15) has looked an improving filly on her last two victories on the all-weather. She has been strong at the finish which augurs well for this 1m 4f handicap and although the anticipated very soft ground is an unknown, her dam Dark Angel’s often progeny handle deep conditions.
There is a fascinating card at Wolverhampton where the one-mile Novice Stakes should be fought out by WEST WING (8.00) and Kawasir.
John Gosden’s West Wing was cut down by stablemate Hinde Street at Lingfield but that came over 1m2f, so this drop in distance should suit. The winner looked a smart debutante.
Having backed Kawasir at Lingfield last time it will be a sucker punch if that one pops up. The form looks okay with winner Key Player a warm order at Ripon this afternoon (4.35), but Kawasir held every chance and looked a bit one-paced. He should strip fitter and the betting market will be informative.
