AYR will be riding very testing on the opening day of William Hill Ayr Gold Cup week and that should play to the strengths of JET STREAMING (4.20).
Irish handler Adrian Keatley despatched a three-year-old to win this event 12 months ago so will know what is required. Jet Streaming handled soft ground when scoring at the Galway festival over the shorter trip of one mile but should stay this every yardage all right.
He finished seventh to bang-in-form Panstarr last time and that horse ran very well at Fairyhouse yesterday. Keatley has declared a hood for the first time.
The William Hill Doonside Cup has attracted some classy individuals and FRANKUUS (4.50) could enjoy a solo out in front, tactics which were effectively employed in the Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock.
The son of Frankel flopped at Windsor two weeks later but that run may have come a bit quick on firmer ground than ideal. His second to Defoe in the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton was another good effort and I’ll be disappointed if he isn’t involved in the finish.
The handicaps on the eight-race card are treacherous and I’ll restrict myself to an each-way dabble on ROARING FORTIES (3.10).
The top weight chased home Dark Profit at Musselburgh earlier this month and produced a fine effort on soft ground, again at Musselburgh over 7f, when runner-up to The Stalking Moon.
Jay Kay is an Ayr regular but hasn’t won since beating Miss Ranger here two summers ago. He is due to go up 4lb so he is nicely treated on the back of a close second to Ventura Secret at Carlisle (heavy) eight days ago.
