MECCABAH (1.50) hasn't lived up to expectations but she has a great chance to lose her maiden tag at Kempton.
She appeared set for a good campaign when running third over course and distance back in April. Meccabah split Roger Charlton's Time Charter and Thafeera, and considering that pair have been capable of winning handicaps this summer off marks in the high 80s, it has been a surprise to see Meccabah struggling to get her head in front.
Perhaps 1m 2f has been over-stretching her stamina and this drop to a mile might do the trick. Her last run, when fourth to Road To Dubai at Redcar, has been franked by the winner scoring again in higher grade at Windsor.
Chief market rival Cape To Cuba is rated in the mid-70s and could be considered an unlucky loser when a closing third to Glendun and Archie over course and distance late last month. Her earlier second to favourite Psychotic was another solid effort, the pair pulling five lengths clear of the third.
If all eight runners go to post for the fillies' handicap, then I can't resist a modest each-way punt on LUCY THE PAINTER (2.20).
She has been running quite well in better class events without really threatening to win and first-time blinkers are applied today. It is easy enough to pick holes in the form of the market leaders and Lucy The Painter is worth a dabble at double-digit odds.
Ben Pauling almost landed the double for me yesterday and his bumper recruit BARLEY HILL (4.00) could well continue the yard's hot spell at Southwell.
