Alan Thomson’s Tips: Dreaming of glory at Chelmsford

CITY DREAMER (8.45) reverts to the Flat with serious credentials in the 1m 6f handicap at Chelmsford City.

Alan King’s gelding was in the process of running a solid race behind Malaya over hurdles at Ascot when a blunder two out stopped all momentum.

City Dreamer was beaten less than 10 lengths by the impressive winner and a repeat of his earlier Flat effort at Lingfield when chasing home in-form Author’s Dream will make him hard to beat in this Class 6 contest.

Oisin Murphy has some enticing mounts, none more so than EXTRA MILE (7.15) for Saeed Bin Suroor. She is one of Frankel’s lesser progeny but appears capable of winning off a mark of 78.

Extra Mile was a disappointing favourite (fourth) to Neshmeya at Salisbury in mid-June but the fifth horse that day came out to win off 77 next time.

War Chief’s third to Eynhallow and Secret Advisor at Goodwood in May is the best form on offer but he hasn’t been seen since flopping the following month at Sandown.

Murphy has another obvious chance aboard THE JUGGLER (6.15). William Knight’s gelding was returning for a five months absence when a running-on third at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago, one place behind Steel Helmet (5lb better off with that rival). The Juggler won by seven lengths over course and distance in August and his Wolves run will have blown away the cobwebs.

On the afternoon card at Wolverhampton, FAST TRACK (3.15) is worth an interest on the back of his course and distance fourth to Tropics in mid-December. He has since been dropped 2lb and finished a close-up third to Spare Parts at Kempton last time. Nicola Currie takes off 5lb.

Dougan is sliding down the ratings and is sitting on an attractive mark these days if able to rediscover his old dash.
