NOT SO SLEEPY (3.40) is a rare Hughie Morrison runner at Ayr and the top weight will surely have better luck than he experienced at Goodwood when repeatedly denied a clear run in a better handicap won by Alfarris. The gelding is 3lb below his previous winning mark.

Good Boy Alfie came with a sweeping run to nail Where’s Jeff at Hamilton but the runner-up has since done little for the form. Keith Dalgleish’s three-year-old is closely matched with hat-trick seeking Glasses Up but Stonific, just denied by Maori Bob at Doncaster, may prove the main danger in an interesting contest.

MECCA’S AFFAIR (2.05) has something to find on the book with Lucky Violet and Inglorious on her last visit to Ayr. However, she was given a bit of a shocker by Paula Muir, having been rushed up wide on the home bend following a slow break. With a more circumspect ride Mecca’s Affair could well repeat her previous wide-margin course and distance victory.

Gordon Elliott’s Kuiper Belt has certainly enjoyed his Scottish holiday, twice justifying favouritism at Musselburgh and Ayr. He is turned out again, but this time over the much shorter 1m 2f trip. Clearly, he could go in again but the each-way play is FRENCH RESISTANCE (5.15).

Jedd O’Keefe’s three-year-old wasn’t suited by a tactical affair in a better contest at Pontefract but had earlier won at Carlisle. Remember Rocky almost did us a good turn last week but it was a pretty poor contest.

In stark contrast to Kuiper Belt, Elliott’s Markhan has been expensive to follow at Musselburgh and Ayr. He takes a pull and really needs a strong pace to attack. It’s Sod’s Law he pops up today but twice bitten I’ll row in with last year’s winner CHINESE SPIRIT (3.10), well backed when runner-up at Hamilton last time.

ACADIAN ANGEL (2.40) is a long-standing bookmakers’ friend but John Quinn’s filly is given another chance on the back of her second to Redarna over course and distance 13 days ago. Curly Girl is one of several Irish raiders on the card and John Feane’s filly could go well now that she has dropped to her lowest mark.
