THIS year’s renewal of the Juddmonte International, one of the hottest tickets in Europe, is an absolute cracker, with ROARING LION (3.35) fancied to follow up his ultra-game Coral-Eclipse Stakes verdict over Saxon Warrior when not well positioned racing off the home bend.
Course form is often vital at York and Roaring Lion’s emphatic Dante Stakes success stands him in good stead.
John Gosden also saddles Royal Ascot winner Without Parole, the mount of Frankie Dettori, and the faster the ground the better for his three-year-old star.
Sir Michael Stoute is represented by King George hero Poet’s Word and his five-year-old has already taken the notable scalps of Cracksman and Crystal Ocean during a scintillating summer campaign. He has every chance of completing a four-timer and rates the main danger.
Saxon Warrior, brilliant winner of the Qipco 2000 Guineas, hasn’t subsequently quite reached those giddy heights but this 1m2f trip on fast ground is probably right up his street. The form of the Aidan O’Brien horses remains a concern.
Saeed Bin Suroor is doubly represented by Thunder Snow and Benbatl, no back numbers even in this exalted company, while Joseph O’Brien sends over his Irish Derby hero Latrobe. Sit back and enjoy.
EL ASTRONAUTE (1.55) runs the Knavesmire very well and is only 3lb higher than when beating Dark Shot over course and distance in May. John Quinn’s gelding has run several terrific races in defeat since then, most recently when fourth to Tis Marvellous at Ascot. Back at York, with 3lb claimer Rossa Ryan on top, El Astronaute can capitalise on a promising draw in stall 18.
WATAN (2.25) still showed signs of greenness when making a winning debut at Goodwood and is fancied to land the Acombe Stakes. Richard Hannon’s colt looks the type to benefit from a step up in distance on this quicker surface.
CROSS COUNTER (3.00) graduated from handicap company in some style when thumping Dee Ex Bee in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and may be capable of taking another step forward in the Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes.
Kew Gardens, winner of a Group 1 in France on the back of his wide-margin victory in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot, sets a high standard but Aidan O’Brien’s raiders are struggling of late to hit the target.
Last year’s Acombe winner Wells Farhh Go has ground to make up on King Edward VII Stakes winner Old Persian but clearly goes very well at York. Tim Easterby’s colt is the each-way option.

NAP…Cross Counter 3pm York has to be the bet of the day at todays meeting, you horsey followers agree?
Have backed CROSS COUNTER too and doubled him with WATAN.
Can’t make my mind up between Roaring Lion and Poets Word so have done the R/F as I’ll be surprised if it’s not these 2 fighting it out at the finish.

why you quitting johnb
Cheers for all the tips and all the best with your new venture.
That’s a very brief thank you for someone who has been a stalwart here for years mr f.
Have you and John fallen out ?.
In football terms he would be granted a testimonial for his services to the thread for me.
No fallout – you have to remember he hasn’t been an official contributor for some time now.
I’ll be phoning to speak to him directly rather than simply put up a comment.
I hope there is some way to keep following you Johnb. Really appreciate all your effort and knowledge.
As far as I know he’s not doing any tips at all – he hasn’t been doing them on Twitter either.
Thanks Mr F. Bad for me, but hopefully great for Johnb. All the best Johnb, hope it all goes great.
Many thanks for all Those winners John b.
I’ve quietly followed you on here and your tipping has made racing fun for me again.
Awesome antipost tipping
Benbatl 10/1 will probably WIN but shouldn’t!! my moneys on him also a saver on what should be the winner poets word to come 2nd and not quite get back in time!!
3/1 second place
Boom racing is a game of deception top job Alan nice one!!!
Many thanks Alan
Johnb will you no longer be tipping horses??
John will have his own reasons for quitting and I for one would like to thank him for sharing his knowledge here for FREE.
best wishes with whatever you do in the future.
‘its been one hell of a ride as they say’. ?
As far as I can tell he’ll be too busy and that’s fair enough.
And of course I appreciate all his contributions – not on the site 24/7 so didn’t see the comment until I got home.
Is your twitter no longer posting horses john
I’m gutted.Not a word from Mr F nor even a thank you
Just back in from beating Scott at golf so I’ve no idea what you’re on about but thank you.
Best of luck johnb.
Your knowledge is 2nd to none and I wish you well in the future
The man is a legend and should always have had his own page alongside Alan to share his wealth of knowledge. Johns racing tips and chat. It must have been a huge blow to have that stripped from him when he gave so much to this site because of a few numpties who continually chastised him when things didn’t go plan. That year he had a ridiculous amount of 2nds. The antepost king will be missed. Good luck buddy
I think he’s bigger than that. People were constantly moaning as Johnb went through a bad spell and we gave it a long time before we made the change.
I’ve never criticised him and I hardly ever bet on horses but it was clear to me something had to be done.
Also from what he says his new venture is a biggie and it’s going to take up a lot of time so he’s doing well for himself.
Good luck John B, horse whisperer and champion of the homeless. I hope you land on your feet.
