VERA DRAKE (5.20) has been racing over shorter trips since going down in a photo finish to Saving Grace over 1m 4f at Doncaster in July but Richard Fahey steps her up to that trip again at Newcastle.

She races off the same mark and Fahey is giving his 7lb apprentice Oakley Brown plenty of decent rides.

CUBAN HEEL (4.15) went down fighting to Deadly Accurate at Epsom last week and third horse Corazon Espinado hosed up 24 hours later. Clive Cox seems to have found Cuban Heel the ideal opening at Ffos Las.

CONNOISSEUR (5.05) was given the usual three backend runs down the field by Sir Mark Prescott and the filly has been awarded a lowly 57 rating. She might be useless but the booking of Serena Brotherton at Brighton would suggest Connoisseur is quite well fancied to make a winning handicap debut.

Recommended Bets

  • Newcastle 5.20 – Vera Drake (7-2, McBookie)
  • Ffos Las 4.15 – Cuban Heel (6-4, Ladbrokes)
  • Brighton 5.05 – Connoisseur (4-1, bet365)

Come on chaps no need to put up cash totals plenty of skint people out there no need to show off. The odd time is fair enough but theres a few who do it all the time. Unless it makes you feel better about yourself then fair enough. I just tell my mates in the pub when i win or lose no need to advertise on a public chat room

Everyone has their way, this is mine…
£10,£20,£30,£40 stakes is not boasting… it is simple showing my confidence in the horses

My worst day here is £30 down, I’m sure even the best of bettors expect to lose sometimes and if you can’t afford to lose £30 then simply you shouldn’t be betting, betting should be taken as a luxury/hobby after you’ve paid for the necessities in life, that is all

    • Avatar of phil maine

I didnt mean you mate yours is just like putting up points its the ones that aftertime boasting about their winnings.

Not sure many can bet what looks like £300 a day following you mind. You must be rich!

People need to talk in terms of points and not pounds.
Mentioning actual money can lead to irresponsible gambling.

    • Avatar of Nathan Lamb
      mm 7 years ago

Sorry mr f but not sure how putting 1 point instead of £10 would lead to more responsible gambling?

Just my point of view as much as anyone else is entitled to theirs, just think everyone should know their limits when betting etc etc. Using a points system instead of points is arguably more risky as you aren’t seeing actual monetary values your putting down, using points is sort of doing what all bookies and casinos do… change actually money to a credit figure as such so people are more willing to use it rather than lay hard cash.

Casinos give you £100 chips that have the weight and size of nothing given their value, machines are also easy to bet with as a simple tap values £10,£20,£100… I just prefer using cash sums as it can be put into perspective of hours needed to be worked to earn it, just find its beneficial?

Again though each to their own, whatever people think is better for their own control I am all for sir

      Points don’t have a value that’s why – 1pt could be £1 or £10 or £100.
What they show is your form and profit. I’m totally against people talking about how much they’ve won in terms of cash because everyone has different budgets and it’s unfair to those who bet with small stakes.

Every bet place you should afford to lose. If not you can’t risk the stake.
