BAWAASIL (8.00) sticks out on the evening card at Doncaster.
Owen Burrows’s colt ran out of his skin at Newmarket when beaten in a blanket finish by Naval Intelligence and Restive Spirit and that piece of form is very good indeed.
Naval Intelligence came out to land a Listed event at Newmarket from the 108-rated Gabr, while the William Haggas-trained Restive Spirit romped home by seven lengths on his next outing at Ripon.
DIVE FOR GOLD (7.15) catches the eye at Newbury on his first handicap venture. John Gosden’s son of Dubawi beat Rock Eagle at Salisbury before chasing home Drill at Chelmsford City, conceding 7lb to the winner. His handicap mark of 85 seems workable.
SEXY BEAST (2.55) pulled far too hard at Haydock but still managed a decent third to useful Makinmg Miracles. He had earlier thrashed African Jazz four lengths and if Callum Shephard can get him settled then Sexy Beast has a big chance.
Course and distance winner Ghostwatch had Jackfinbar (sixth) and Mt Augustus (seventh) behind, but Mt Augustus appeared to have improved enormously when running out a wide-margin winner at Newmarket next time out.
CAMOMILE LAWN (4.00) wins a narrow vote over Sageness in the fillies’ handicap. Eve Johnston Houghton won this race last year and Camomile Lawn is in good form having scored at Yarmouth, despite a troubled run through, followed by a solid third to Peace Prevails over a longer trip.
Sageness showed her fighting spirit when battling back once headed to outpoint Winged Spur and Bollin Joan at Beverley, with both beaten horses since winning in some style.
