THE Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup is a grade B steeplechase open to 4 year old and older chasers run over a distance of 3 miles and 2½ furlongs.

Salsify returns to Cheltenham bidding to become the seventh dual winner of the Foxhunter Chase and first back-to-back scorer since Double Silk (1993/94). Although beaten by Tammys Hill on his first two starts of the season, Salsify exacted revenge on that rival by getting up close home at Leopardstown last time out.

Chapoturgeon cruised to victory at Newbury in January and the 2009 Jewson Novices’ Chase winner looks like he could really take to hunter chasing. He scored with ease that day and has not been since then and will surely be primed to the minute by Richard Barber and his team.

Cottage Oak has not been beaten since joining his new trainer. Having scored in easy fashion in a couple of Points before the turn of the year he turned his attentions to Hunter Chasing where he recorded another two wins in testing conditions.

Oscar Delta has finished third in this race for the last two years but his form this season is not quite at the level of previous years.

Backstage warmed up for the Cheltenham Festival with victory at Tinahely point-to-point on March 3.

Faasel has been placed at three festivals in the past. He bounced back to form to win a couple of points before disappointing last time.

Tricky Trickster broke his neck at Uttoxeter two years ago but following plenty of time off and box rest, he came back and won at Huntingdon.

That’s Rhythm chased home Salsify at Stratford last year and he was comfortably beaten on that occasion and he hasn’t done enough since then to think he can turn the form around.

We accord good chances also to Creevytennant, Cloudy Lane and Radetzky March.
