The FedEx play-offs start to heat up this week with the BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club, South Course, Wilmington, Delaware.
With only 69 players remaining they're all competing for a share of the $15M prize pot with the winner collecting the BMW Championship title and a cheque for $2.7M but more importantly a guaranteed place in the last 30 for next week's Tour Championship.
Last Week's 25/1 & 28/1 Winners
Before I continue with this week's BMW Championship tips, I want to reach out and thank you all kindly for the nice messages, DMs, likes etc. Again, it's been overwhelming knowing how many of you are actually following my selections on a weekly basis. Honestly, it’s what makes it all worthwhile knowing that so many of you are cashing in while having some fun watching golf. So let's spread the word some more. If you could hit the share button at the bottom of this post I would be very grateful.
After picking the winners at both PGA & DP World Tour events, where do I start with last week's selections?
I’ll start with the local lad Ewen Ferguson who won his second title when bagging the ISPS Handa World Invitational to finish the British Isles Swing in terrific style for both us and him. I did say that the young Scot was the clue to solving the puzzle at Galgorm Castle and lots of you took advantage cashing in at a generous 25/1. Friend and countryman Connor Syme who I also advised each way at 20/1 finished runner up for some tidy place money to make it another 1st & 2nd for us all savour here at MFT.
But wait, surely it can’t get any better than that, oh well wait for this, I did say pre-tournament that he had a feeling and the Crystal Ball didn’t disappoint doing its job once again. Will Zalatoris, he’s eventually gone and done it, get in there Will. I’ll not tell any porky pies here but I was standing up in my living room with a tear in my eye applauding the talented youngster winning his breakthrough maiden title.
Here’s an interesting fact, he has the most top 10 finishes without winning a single title, sixteen to be exact. But not any more! It has to be one of the most deserved titles in golfing history and I’ll tell you right now, keep an eye on Will, there will be lots more to follow now that he can relax, including a major where he’s finished runner-up on no less than three occasions.
With a Super BankerNap, Match bet Nap and a T5th each way place for Tony Finau at 22/1. It's Bookie Bashing at its finest. I’ll finish up before moving on by saying well done to each and every one of you who collected and I’ve heard from one lucky punter who doubled up at 753/1. Absolutely amazing stuff and huge congratulations. If anyone else managed to double up at those crazy odds then I’d be interested to hear.
I would be very grateful to those that have profited from my tips if you can take the time to share this article on your social media platform of choice. Let's spread the word and keep bashing those bookies together!
I’m just so happy and glad I can help so many and long may it continue as we remain on track to beat last year's unbelievable £3k profit and on that note let’s get back to this week's BMW Championship preview.
BMW Championship preview
The South Course will be playing 7,534 yards long this week, it’s a par 71 Bentgrass layout and it is the first time this venue has been used on the PGA Tour.
Patrick Cantlay returns to defend his crown and progress to the Tour Championship. If you remember last year the titanic play-off duel between Cantlay and Bryson De Chambeau went to the sixth extra hole before the current FedEx champ finally prevailed.
The weather is forecast to be mainly sunny with some clouds around throughout. Breezes will peak at around 14mph on Saturday.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 5 pm on Thursday evening.
Will Zalatoris
For my first and main betting tip in Delaware, I’m going to point you all in the direction of that man again Will Zalatoris 16/1 EW Betfair 1-7 places. I’m sorry, I just can’t help myself here, confidence breeds confidence and there's no golfer more confident on this planet just now than Will Zalatoris.
How often have we seen this recently, I can name a few including Scottie Scheffler, Tony Finau, Sam Burns and Xander Schauffele who hit a groove and bagged title after title. You can include Will Zalatoris in with those anytime soon, I mean as soon as this weekend. I can only envisage the trophy cabinet filling up quickly for the 26-year-old Californian.
I’ve already previously highlighted that this kid is simply a wizard at accuracy and precision and how much I wished for him to win that maiden title, well with that taken care of after his victory last weekend in Memphis, it’s onwards and upwards for this wonder kid.
Would you all agree with me just how much Will is so likeable and how well he always presents himself? Talk about resilience after suffering so much heartache with all those runner-up prizes including three majors, that in my book is what makes a true champion and this week I feel no need to list all the stats and figures for Will Zalatoris.
I’m going on adrenaline here and with that weight now firmly on his shoulders expect Will Zalatoris to perform again this weekend as he doubles up in as many weeks.
Xander Schauffele
For my next suggestion, I’m going to advise a player who has done us proud recently, Xander Schauffele 20/1 EW Paddy Power 1-7 places. It’s hard to believe that Schauffele, also from California is still only 28 years old and he is another who has had a magnificent 2022. With two back-to-back victories only weeks ago when scooping both the Travelers Championship and then the Scottish Open, it’s clear to see that Schauffele has found a groove.
I tipped him to win both those tournaments and since then a 15th place finish at The 150th Open Championship up at St Andrew's cements my choice to include him as a hot pick again this week. With exactly a dozen Top 20 finishes this year including those two victories mentioned above, if that’s not enough to tempt you then perhaps some stats may.
On the PGA circuit, this year Schauffele ranks 8th SG Total, 7th Birdie Average at 4.41, 6th Putting Average at 1.721, 4th Scoring Average at 69.11 and 4th Lowest Round at 61, and keep the best for last, 1st Sand Save Percentages at 66.67%. Do you notice a trend, that’s all stats performing in the Top 10 in so many different departments, that’s consistently at its finest and there's no one more consistent just now than Xander Schauffele.
Tony Finau
For my next selection, I’m going to advise yet another who’s on fire just now Tony Finau 16/1 EW Paddy Power. The 32-year-old gentle giant from Salt Lake City is yet another who is firing on all cylinders at the moment.
With two victories at the last three attempts, the other being a top 5 finish, Finau is in the form of his life and he could take some stopping around Wilmington Country Club this weekend. He was seeking the hat-trick in Memphis last week but after a fine performance, he fell just short in 5th place, still phenomenal stuff from the hotter-than-ever Finau.
Winner at the Rocket Mortgage a couple of weeks back and also Champion previously to that at the 3M Open, some select golfers are just taking the bull by the horns at the moment and Tony Finau fits that category perfectly. Never mind Top 10 finishes this year, Finau has six Top 5 finishes already in the bag including those two victories mentioned above.
Two others worth a mention include runners-up finishes at both the Mexico Open and further up North at the Canadian Open.
With a host of Top 10 stats on the PGA Tour around the greens which include 10th Going For The Green, 8th SG Around The Green, 5th Greens In Regulation Percentage at 71.08% along with 10th SG Total and 7th Scoring Average at 69.23, it’s clear for all to see just where Tony Finau’s game is at the moment and it could get even better on Sunday evening with his third victory in a matter of weeks.
For my final tip, it’s the customary match bet and for this week's NAP I’m going to advise Tyrrell Hatton to beat Corey Conners over 72 holes 10/11 Bet365 NAP.
