PGA Championship betting tips

The second major of the season is here, and after the drama of the Masters last month, excitement levels are incredibly high for the PGA Championship this week.

This year's tournament comes from Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the venue is significant, more so after the Masters, as this is a course that Rory McIlroy loves, but more on that later.

The field is as strong as you would expect for a major championship, and after Scottie Scheffler picked up his first win of the season two weeks ago at the Byron Nelson, he comes in as the joint-favourite alongside McIlroy with most of the best golf betting sites.

Last year's winner, Xander Schauffele, has been suffering from a rib injury all season, but he did show some of his best form last week at the Truist Championship, so he certainly has a chance of defending his crown this week.

After successfully backing McIroy to win the Masters, we're looking to go two for two in the majors this year. Check out our PGA Championship betting tips below.

PGA Championship betting tips

Rory McIlroy EW (Ten places) – 4/1

Ever since Quail Hollow was unveiled as the host venue for the 2025 PGA Championship, many people in the game felt that this was going to be Rory McIlroy's best chance of ending his long wait for major championship number five.

However, after winning the Masters in April and completing the career grand slam in the process, the weight of expectation and pressure has been entirely released. That makes him an even more dangerous proposition this week, at a course he excels at.

For starters, the Northern Irishman holds the course record at Quail Hollow with a round of 61 in 2015. That was no fluke or flash in the plan, either, as he is a four-time winner of the Wells Fargo Championship – a tournament that is held at this venue each year.

McIlroy's most recent triumph at that tournament was just last year, when he won comfortably by five shots, illustrating that he still has the game to win on a course that feels like it was built specifically for him.

To be frank, it would be a colossal shock if he doesn't at least cover the EW here.

Justin Thomas EW (Ten places) – 16/1

Justin Thomas has enjoyed a brilliant 2025 so far, getting himself back in the winner's circle last month at the RBC Heritage. That victory was certainly coming as he has now finished inside the top two in three of his last four events.

That's the kind of form that would make anyone a contender coming into a major championship, but when you consider that Thomas is a two-time PGA Championship winner and that one of those victories came at Quail Hollow in 2017, you simply have to look at 16/1 as a steal.

One interesting stat about the PGA Championship is that more than 75% of the last 25 winners had won at least one previous PGA Tour event in the season they won it. That certainly cuts the list of potential winners down drastically, but it leaves JT right in the thick of it.

Joaquin Niemann EW (Ten places) – 28/1

As far as potential LIV winners go this week, most people will automatically look to Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, but one man who is going under the radar is Joaquin Niemann. The Chilean is having a stellar season on the LIV Tour with three wins to his name across the first seven events of the season.

He is leading the individual standings and has the game to perform well at Quail Hollow. Over the years, driving distance has been the most important metric to follow in terms of correlation between players who rank highly in that and those who end up in contention.

Niemann currently has an average driving distance of 327.3 yards in 2025. Although that only has him ranked third on LIV, it would place him first on the PGA Tour, meaning he consistently outhits the likes of Rory McIlroy and Min Woo Lee.

He has the form and the game, and as of this week, he also has the backing of Bryson DeChambeau, who has publicly predicted the 26-year-old will be a major champion one day soon. Say what you like about DeChambeau, but he knows golf better than anybody, so his opinion is worth taking on board.
