Football Bet of the Day

After making it seven successive winners in Ireland on Friday, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the Italian Serie A, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Lazio vs Lecce

🇮🇹 Serie A

⏰ Sunday 25 May, 19:45

Two clubs with very different objectives in Serie A meet at the Olimpico on Sunday evening as Champions League-chasing Lazio hosts relegation-threatened Lecce in a fixture that appeals to me for goals at both ends.

Marco Baroni’s hosts are the joint third-highest scorers in Serie A, slamming in 61 goals across their opening 37 contests, with 33 (54%) of them coming on home soil.

Only runners-up Inter have prevented Lazio from scoring at the Olimpico in the Italian top flight this term – with The Biancocelesti striking on multiple occasions in 10/18 (56%) of them – and will be confident of breaching a Lecce defence that has kept just three clean sheets on their travels this season and just one of their past 11, with that coming against rock-bottom Monza.

Marco Giampaolo’s visitors have scored just 26 goals across their opening 37 fixtures in the Italian top flight this term, with 13 (50%) of them coming on their travels.

After failing to score in each of their opening six Serie A road trips, The Giallorossi have found the back of the net in nine of their last 12 – including in seven of their past nine – and will look to breach a Lazio backline that has registered just two clean sheets at home in Serie A this season, with neither of those arriving in any of their last 11 encounters.

Bet of the Day

Lazio’s opening 37 fixtures in Serie A this season have averaged 2.95 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score clicking in a joint league-high 24 (65%) of them.

Those numbers rise when playing at their Olimpico base, with their opening 18 Serie A contests in front of their supporters averaging an eye-catching 3.22 goals per game, with 14 (83%) of them featuring goals at both ends, including each of their last 10.

Lecce’s previous 11 Serie A clashes on their travels have averaged 2.82 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score banking in eight (73%) of them, including in each of their last four and seven of their past nine.

What’s more, this fixture tends to produce goals, with the past 11 Serie A meetings averaging 3.55 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score paying out in an impressive 10 (91%) of them – and given both sides need for points – I’m happy to back both to bag in the Italian capital on Sunday night.
