Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to Antwerp in Belgium, and I fancy the hosts to maintain their 100% home record against their struggling hosts.
Antwerp vs KV Oostende
🇧🇪 Jupiler Pro League
⏰ Thursday 20th October, 17:30
Antwerp will look to go back to within one point of league leaders Genk on Thursday evening as they welcome struggling Oostende to the Bosuilstadion.
Rather astonishingly, Antwerp conceded three goals inside the opening nine minutes in their 3-0 defeat away at Standard Liège on Sunday. Whilst that’s now back-to-back defeats on the road, Mark van Bommel’s side still have a perfect home league record – winning all six of their fixtures at the Bosuilstadion this season. Antwerp are the third-highest scorers in the Belgian top-flight with 24 goals from their opening 12 league outings this season. The Great Old have notched multiple goals in eight of those fixtures – including in each of their previous five on home turf.
Oostende’s poor run of form continued last time out as they were thrashed 1-6 by in-form Union Saint-Gilloise on home turf. Yves Vanderhaeghe’s men have now won just one of their nine league matches, and they currently sit outside of the relegation zone only on goal difference. All 11 points Oostende have collected in the league so far this season have come against fellow bottom-half sides, with them losing all six encounters with teams sitting in the top half. De Kustboys have registered just one clean sheet so far this season and have already conceded 22 goals – with half of those coming in their last four matches.
Bet of the Day
After suffering back-to-back defeats on the road, Antwerp will be glad to be back at their Bosuilstadion base, where they’ve been faultless this season. Mark van Bommel will be confident his side can record their seventh consecutive victory at home against an Oostende side that’s won just one of their last nine league tussles and who have lost all six of their meetings this season with top-half sides.
To go alongside the win, I’m happy to take the hosts to score at least twice. The Great Old have struck 16 goals across their six matches on home turf this season – scoring at least twice in each of their last five – and there’s a good chance they’ll bag another double against an Oostende side that has let in 11 goals across their last four league outings, with six of those coming in a 1-6 thrashing at home to Union Saint-Gilloise at the weekend there.
