WEDNESDAY was another profitable night for LockupTipster with 3 of his 5 bets winning to give him an impressive 71% strike-rate for the week so far.

He's back once more with his picks for Thursday's quarter final matches…

With another great night on the darts, we now focus towards the business end of the competition and pitch up at the quarter final stage, where the top half of the draw battle out to see who will face one another on Friday's Semi Final

Top half quarter finals:

  • Quarter one – MVG Vs Jamie Lewis
  • Quarter two – Mark Webster Vs Jelle Klassen

MVG Vs Jamie Lewis

Bookies make MVG the overwhelming favourite and no bigger than 1/10, with Lewis out at 9/1 in places. The head to head shows that MVG leads 7-1 with the only loss for MVG coming at a UK Open qualifier in early 2014. The pair met as recently as the matchplay where Gerwen unleashed his venom in a 13-2 last 16 clash in Blackpool. MVG has some real bite in this tourney and made his statement after beating Kim Huybrechts on Tuesday night that he knew he would win!

Jamie Lewis made a terrific comeback to beat Michael Smith 3-2 and went to the final leg to secure victory. He hit a 108 to finish off the match and this partially comes into play on the bet I will suggest. Lewis went to the final visit for a ton plus checkout and the bookies are suggesting a cruise 3-0 win for the world number one. I am thinking, with MVG in form, how many chances will Lewis get and will he crack under the pressure?

When I saw the price for a Lewis checkout, I was dwelling between the 7/10 on under 100.5 or evens for under 90.5. This is the tricky one. The 100.5 requires a three dart finish (not literally but most commonly). The 7/10 does look the play, as if the MVG that turns up does, this could be all over in less than thirteen legs. There is a contrast towards the highest checkout and individual match checkouts but at 5/6 it does not appeal. Those looking for a pro MVG bet will be interested to know Coral offer 11/10 for MVG to win the game, hit the most maximums and highest checkout. I am not a huge fan of this market, but I am sure some will be!

Mark Webster Vs Jelle Klassen

The battle of the former BDO World Champions as they toe the oche, with Webster taking out jackpot as Klassen saw off Dave Chisnall. The head to head is close with Webby edging it 7-6, but none of their meetings have been on TV and will be the first meeting since May 2013. Jelle Klassen is the firm favourite at 4/6 with the Welsh superstar out at 6/4 and expected to shorten in as backers convince themselves the prices should be closer than they are and they should.

To summarise this, I looked at the key markets I price up and compare to the actual live prices and the bookies have this game well covered on all key markets. I will take the unprecedented decision to play a no bet for this game!

Recommendation:

  • Jamie Lewis – Under 100.50 checkout – 7/10 Betfair Sportsbook

Hi chaps, loving the arrows threads! and Great work this week! Anyone else find that Bet365 don’t always have the good markets on these, as in it isn’t above, what is the best darts bookie? I don’t like to have too many running at once or I lose track of all my funds (or lack of!!)

Jacksonator, I find most the big bookies have the markets covered I like to play in, Coral, hills etc. I have a Betway account has they sponsor the PL Darts.

White v Thornton should be good for overs on the 180’s. Both can rattle them in when on song. I’ve seen over 7.5 for 45 but I’ve not looked around properly yet for a better price.

Yeah Thornton was unlucky not to get a few more 180s in the Pipe borefest. He planted the first two in the treble a number of times but the last dart fell short. He’ll have to raise his game as White will be banging in some 180s himself.

    Evening Guys Grand Prix Darts,

The opening game sees Robert Thornton face off against Gary Anderson conqueror Ian White. That match last night was a cracker, 19 maximums both averaging over 97 and in this format that is over a 100 in matchplay darts. Thornton as predicted cruised past Justin Pipe and I think he could win this to. Can Ian White backup after last nights heroics.

I think the best bet is O7.5 on the maximums, I can see at least four sets and while Thornton only hit 2 last night he was dragged down by Pipe slow pace. I think these two will bounce off each other and cover this line. It 5/6 Coral.

Next up is another close one to call between Van der Voort and Suljovic. VVV has a poor record against Suljovic however he is the highest ranked player and is playing his best darts. The biggest surprise was he only hit 1 maximum but the game last night wasn’t a classic he only averaged 86.23 while Jenkins was even worse at 76. I like him to score more maximums than Suljovic at 10/11 Betfair.

Suljovic was outstanding on his double ins with 75% and if he does that tonight he will win. It is a big ask to be that good again and if he dips then I expect VVV stronger scoring power to take over. The first set is crucial in this one. The bookies cant split them, they favour Suljovic, I just fancy VVV to make it through. He 21/20 Boyles.

I cant call a winner in the Webster – Klaasen match. I have nothing against Webby but I want Jelle to win as he is someone I enjoy watching play. He as had his issues away from the Oche, but is playing well the past few months. He won on the floor prior to this and has carried on that form, his finishing was superb against Chisnall. The bet I like is for him to get the most 180s at 5/6 Coral.

    THORNTON v WHITE O7.5 TOTAL 180s 5/6
VVV TO HAVE MOST 180s 10/11
    VVV TO BEAT SULJOVIC 21/20
KLAASEN TO HAVE MOST 180s 5/6

Good luck if your having a bet

Max, VVV was a set and 2-0 up but missed a whole host of doubles, he lost that set and crumbled. Suljovic ran 9 straight legs against him and took out the top shot 170 to win the match. It was a big chance for VVV, who with a win and a decent showing in the Grand Slam and the Worlds could of made the PL next year.

Chief, bullseye, lockup, cheers for the tips tonight guys I took a mix of all yours. Took a treble at over 5/1 of klaasen & VVV most 180’s, and MVG to win, highest checkout, most 180s. Was absolutely gutted when Lewis stole the highest checkout with a 116 right at the death but MVG finished with a 160 in the next leg with his final 3 darts!!

Harry, nice one mate, that’s why I am a MVG guy. He is superb. A few of my mates were on the king of the oche bet, so were down when Lewis took that out, but were buzzing with that finish by MVG.

Evening Guys, MVG continued his run and as I said in my ante-post if he gets to the final, there is an easy cover whoever he plays. A lot of the big boys have succumbed to the pressure apart from MVG, the decision is up to you weather you cover in the semi final or not, as I think MVG game will be second on.

    THORNTON v WHITE O7.5 TOTAL 180s 5/6 WON
VVV TO HAVE MOST 180s 10/11 WON
