BUILT in an extinct volcano the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City is a gem of a course to host the second part of the Final Series in the Race to Dubai.
The Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa became part of the European Tour schedule in 2014 and has quite a good field, including Open champion Henrik Stenson. The Gary Player designed course is 7381 yards long and accuracy off the tee is going to be important with difficult rough and bush lining the fairways.
With that in mind Stenson looks a stick on with driving accuracy of 77.3% and GIR of 78.2% but at such low prices being offered I’m giving him a miss this week.
His compatriot Alex Noren is my first selection. With three wins this season and four top-10 finishes he is really on form. His DA is 58.2%, which could be better, but he makes up for it with his GIR stat which is 72.4%. Seventeen of his last 24 rounds have been under 70 and he looks a really good pick.
It’s hard to believe Rafa Cabrera Bello hasn’t won since the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in 2012. He’s had six top-10 finishes this year and finished fifth at the Olympics but since his superb display at the Ryder Cup his form has dipped slightly. Having said he has a DA stat of 60.2% and GIR of 76.5% which could be enough to get that elusive win.
Frenchman Alexander Levy is another who is having a good season. He won the Porsche European Open in September and has four other top-10 finishes. The 26-year-old is 29th in the Race to Dubai and has DA stats of 57.1% and GIR of 67.7%. He looks an inviting pick with the prices being offered.

Ace going well for the third week running which is good to see.
oops langer t3rd
Noren looks like taking the lead after the ninth hole. Six birdies in eight for the Swede and Wang unravelling a bit at the eighth. So looking good at the moment.
Great stuff by Noren – now 2 clear. Could be another great day for Ace who has ew chances tonight.
Brilliant play by Noren today. He really only hit one bad shot. Here’s hoping List or Kirk can give me another good return.
Nice one again – you’re on a great run.

well done ace, this Hideki Matsuyama is doing very well in the last 27 tournies 5 top 10 finish, 5 top finish and 5 top champ, and yes a few cuts missed, but this guy has a great record,
any thoughts ace in future tournaments,
Hi Townie, Hideki was pointed out to me a couple of years ago by Mrfixit, who saw him at the Masters. He is a bit up and down but when he gets his act together he can take on the best of them.
I backed him each-way at The Masters in 2015 and watching him on the range at Augusta he looked a great ball striker.
He placed with a brilliant final round and on his day is as good as anyone in the world and has proved that by rising to No.6.
Might have a Major in him next season.
