WITH the Duel in the Sun-Wind-and Rain at Royal Troon over it’s time to move to the Glen Abbey GC for the RBC Canadian Open.
I was delighted to see my 30-1 pick Henrik Stenson win The Open but on such a great final day Phil Mickelson didn't deserve to be a loser.
Thirty-five of the competitors in The Open have agreed to appear here this week, including Jason Day and Dustin Johnston, so it should be quite a good field. The average score last year was 71.211, and included 82 eagles, most of any course since 1982 accuracy off the tee wont be that important but length and strokes gained:putting could be significant.
Dustin Johnson and Jason Day are firm favourites here and to be honest it’s not surprising. If he wasn’t so short I’d be taking Dustin again this week.
It’s hard to gauge how the guys who played at Royal Troon will handle the travelling but I’m hopeful Emiliano Grillo will cope with it. Since winning the Fry’s.com at the beginning of his rookie season he’s been up and down a bit.
A T12 at The Open was the third top-15 finish in his last four outings. His strokes gained:putting isn’t that great but putts per round stands at 29.82 and putting average is 1.786 so his putting isn’t that bad.
One man who is having a good run is American Colt Knost. Although he missed the cut at The Open lots of good players did he has had three top 10s in his last six outings. His strokes gained:putting stands 0.394 (30th). He hits his drives 270.5 (196th) and although I said accuracy isn’t that important he is first with 73.96%. He is in a rich run of form at the moment and well worth a wager.
