HENRIK STENSON came close last week missing the play-off by one stroke but he did give us a return with his fourth-place finish.

Jordan Spieth won it in a play-off with Patrick Reed and Sean O’Hair but unfortunately I tipped him the week before!

This week the PGA Tour pulls up to Bay Hill, Orlando, for the Arnold Palmer Invitational with Rory McIlroy playing this event for the first time and 15 of the ranking's top 30 taking part.

Stenson has been placed fourth in his last two outings following a couple of T13 on the European Tour. His stats are good on both sides of the Atlantic with GIR nearly 84% in Europe and over 71% in America and 66% in driving accuracy on both. In his last two visits to Bay Hill he’s finished in the top 10 so looks like a good bet for a high finish.

Jason Day seems to be on top form just now with three top-fives in five starts. He won the Farmers in February and had a good T4 at the AT&T. His driving accuracy is around 52% with GIR at 72.78%. He finished T31 at the WGC-Cadillac which was his first finish outside the top 20 in his last six starts.

I’ve liked the look of JB Holmes recently. He’s had two seconds and a top-10 finish in his last four outings. He’s 11th on the Tour in putting average with 1.72 and his GIR is 64.71% although driving accuracy is only 54%.

Holmes had a brilliant 62 in the first round at Doral for the WGC-Cadillac and an ace in the third round. He’s playing really well and is a good shout.

My fourth pick is Brooks Koepka who as you know I am going to follow a lot this year. After his win at the Phoenix Open he had a couple of bad tournaments but returned to form last week with a T17 and hopefully is getting his game back. His driving accuracy is over 54% and with GIR over 67% he’s well worth an each-way bet.

Recommended Bets

Henrik Stenson 2.5pts ew (10-1, Ladbrokes)
Jason Day 1.5pts ew (18-1, bet365, BetVictor)
JB Holmes 1pt ew (40-1, BetVictor)
Brooks Koepka 1pt ew (35-1, bet365, Betfred)

4th for me last week but after coming 3rd last week and 2nd week before it appears am getting worse at this, still just the one solitary winner this year which was Jason Day at Torrey Pines though that seems a while back now but he is back this week and must have a shout. With so many big players this week had to narrow down somehow so this week am on 2 picks and one outsider ew as normal

    Henrik Stenson- 9/1

has been incredibly consistent this year with 4 top 4 finishes in last 4 tournaments, sure it will break eventually but hopefully not before he picks up a victory. Has good form here too in last few years.

    Bubba Watson – 12/1

Love betting on Bubba he is either going to shoot a 65 or miss cut by 20 shots, this type of course is made for the hitters and the guys that can take advantage of par 5s. Last year Bubba wasn’t great here but this year is playing well this year with 4 top 10 finishes in 5 starts and he played well here consistently if you avoid last year

    Jason Kokrak E/W 75/1

Jason may not win this year and at 75/1 its obvious most people not giving him a chance but is good each way value. Some players need a few matches under their belt before playing well and Jason is no different, he has been finishing somewhere in the mid 40s to 60s of the leader board recently until last week where he finished tied 7th. Rewind 12 months he went from missed cut, tied 41, 14th then 4th here so hoping the big guy gets some place money this week

Archie, play is suspended AGAIN, due to high winds..I think they should just cancel the event.Bloody ridiculous..If you google golfchannel.com you can keep upto date with news.

Had to chuckle at this……Latest news on Madeira : Official statement has commented ” Play was suspended on the opening day, as high winds between 35-47mph were recorded on course. We placed a ball 3 feet from the hole and the wind blew it straight in.The wind is currently leading the Madeira Open”

Alasu57, nothing worse than playing in wind (or with wind). I remember playing at Gullane on the Firth of Forth one day and after playing a shot I went to put my club in my bag which had blown away – with a full set of clubs in it. Madeira sounds tame.

Good old scottish weather Mr F….At last, the Madeira is underway.

  25. Avatar of Alasu57
    Alasu57 10 years ago

Mr F, can you give me some advice please ? The Madeira Open has now been reduced to 36 holes.Surely this is unfair to all bets placed, as when bets are placed, thoughts are on 4 days play. Will bookies refund stakes or will they class it as you’ve started, so you’ll finish ?? My pick is sitting at 5 over par,9 behind the leader, so i have no effin chance of catching a break.

  26. Avatar of Alasu57
    Alasu57 10 years ago

Mr F, dont worry about my last query, just spoke to customer services at Laddies, bet stands as is……So therefore, my pick of Victor Riu who sits at 5 over, has been cut after 1 round of golf as play has 1 day left…….F***in rip-off in my eyes. What chance you got eh????
