AT last it’s here, the weekend we’ve been waiting for longer than a 99 bus. The Ryder Cup comes to Gleneagles and it should be sensational.
Just watched Memories of Medinah to get me in the mood with Ian Poulter pulling the Europeans up by the bootlaces and it was magical.
The final day was probably one of the best displays of matchplay golf you’ll see and hopefully Europe won't put us through those agonies again.
Poulter’s record in the Ryder Cup is amazing and he seems to get so fired up for it. You would expect him to be up there as top European scorer but he’s not had the greatest of seasons.
I think Sergio Garcia will be top of the tree and although we don’t know at the moment whose playing with whom he’ll be my pick. He’s another who seems to love the format and gets pumped up for it.
He’s played 28 matches, won 16, lost eight and drawn four so his form in the tournament is good. I also fancy him for combined top scorer.
On the other side Rickie Fowler is the man to watch. He’s only played three Ryder Cup matches and has still to win one (L1, D2) but he’s such a fighter I can see him having a really good weekend.
His driving accuracy is 59 per cent and GIR 64 per cent and although he might need to improve his tee shots he could be the main American here.
I’m going for Stephen Gallacher to be the top GB and Irish point scorer. Although he’s a rookie the Perthshire course shouldn’t hold any fears for him and he’s got the temperament and shots to have a good weekend.
The Centenary Course is 7243 yards long, which will suit the big hitter, which Gallacher is (average 295 yards). It also has a few doglegs and with his GIR at 70 per cent that will also be to his advantage.
Here are a few stats that might help you pick some winners. Lee Westwood has raised the Ryder Cup more times (6) than the whole of the American team.
In average driving distance the Europeans lead the Americans by nine inches. And you know every inch counts! Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, Victor Dubuisson and Keegan Bradley are the four top long hitters.
Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, MAtt Kuchar and Henrik Stenson are the most accurate with Americans leading in accuracy, 62.1 to 61.4.
On the greens the Americans are well in front. They have 11 players who average under 29 putts per round whereas Sergio is the only European.
Anyway the big question is: Who is going to win? No way should the Americans be written off but I think the Europeans will retain the trophy. Will they win it? It will be very close and a draw would do.

Matchbook.com can reveal the favourite in the Ryder Cup has only won four of the last eight tournaments. The previous results suggest the underdog has just as much chance of triumphing.
The longest price winner in the last eight Ryder Cups was Europe in 1997 at 3-1.
Matchbook show best price of 4-6 on a European victory, 15-8 on the USA and 62-5 on the tie.
I like you tips ACE. How would you score the above on a points / confidence system?

‘The most one sided ryder cup in years’
Take it you’ve watched probably half a tournament this year?
Match Betting :
GraemeMcDowell (playing partner of McElroy the best golfer on the planet) to beat Jordan Speith 8/11 bet365.
Keegan Bradley (playing partner of mickelson, the best USA partnership by a mile at medina) to beat Martin Kaymer 5/6 bet365….double pays just under 9/4 !!!!!!
banksie, so many markets to choose from. I respect Ace’s tips but I find it hard to tip a draw.
I’m going for a Europe win – 15-13 if I had to take a score but that’s incredibly tough to call.
On Rory top European at 9-2 and Rickie Fowler top American at 6-1.
Like Stevie G at 28-1 with McBookie to hole the winning putt – what a finale that would be.
Will have a look at match bets when pairings are revealed later today.
Goodnight all.

Every tournament from both tours except Qatar in January. All the best with you’re selections.
Chris M, Think Garcia and Fowler solid bets. Gallacher and the draw are long shots worth maybe a small wager. It’s going to be a lot closer than some people think.
Ace, my concern about Gallacher is how many games he’ll play. Rory, Poulter and maybe Rose will play 4 or 5 while Gallacher might get 3 at best. But I do believe it will be close.
Hi Mr F
What is the to lift trophy price of 1 to 2 for europe
compared to the better 4 to 6 to win the Ryder Cup ?
Thanks
Jazza_Bairn, it’s been explained I see. You’d better doing Europe to win than draw.
jazza
two separate bets one is to win it and they need 14 and a half points out of the 28 they play for to do that
one is to lift it which means they can win it as above or draw which would mean they would get 14 points as would America basically if its a draw the previous champions retain the trophy so the only way America can win the trophy is to get 14 and a half points or more
hop this helps
Cheers Lucky Lad thanks for the explanation mate :)
I’m goin for the yanks, the course will suit them , it’s closer than some ppl think .
Speedy, it will be close. I liked what Monty said in the Record today. Firstly home advantage is worth a point and secondly the US need to win by a point to lift the cup – 14.5-13.5 is worst they can do. So it’s almost a two-point start for Europe and while I believe it will be close I reckon McGinley will do a great job and get them over the line.
I got Europe at evens. PP shop special. However I think US will win. Will back US 7/4. Just hope they dont tie.
K Bradley Top Points Scorer 20/1
Treble on the 3 below
V Dubuisson Top European Rookie 7/4
J Speith Top US Rookie 5/4
K Bradley Top US wild card 6/4
I think for future tournament’s if it finishes 14-14 then the top European and the top American points scorer’s should play a 3 hole play off winner takes all. The place wud b goin mental and amazing to watch. Great parings for the morning Stevie g and poulter together outstanding by mcginley. the crowd will b like a football match can’t wait
Totesport offering 3/1 on Europe to win when you open an account with them, max stake £10.
Hi mr F. What do you think of the Lilian hill offer of Mccllroy going unbeaten in Ryder cup for 7/1?
Mr jake, it looks a half-decent offer. Can’t see him losing too many but of course may depend on who he partners after his opener.
Poulter top European 8/1 and furyk top American also 8/1 singles and the double also done stevie g winning putt at 28/1 and stevie g hole in one 100/1 just for the interest
