Our first tip is betting on Carlos Alcaraz to beat Gael Monfils rather comfortably. It might not make the most sense on paper, but Alcaraz has been in the zone, and when he’s in the zone, he’s very hard to beat.
Then, we’re picking Roman Safiullin to give Novak Djokovic some trouble, even though the Serbian has looked very good so far in Shanghai.

Alcaraz is the best player in the world. We can safely say that. This year’s conditions in Shanghai suit him even more than usual, because they aren’t as fast.
The conditions don’t suit Monfils as much though, because while he can get to many balls, he doesn’t have any advantage with his serve. The shots aren’t hitting either, so overall it’s not the best.
When it comes to their matchups so far, Alcaraz has dominated when they played in slow conditions. Monfils won the most recent one in Cincinnati, but that was a horrible performance from Alcaraz and very much an outlier, so we won’t really think about that one.
Overall, this just reads like a matchup that Alcaraz should win without too many problems, so the line being 19.5 doesn’t concern us either.

Djokovic vs Safiullin – over 19.5 games @ 4/6
Djokovic and Safiullin have played two times so far, and both times the Serbian won. It’s not the most complicated matchup for him because Safiullin doesn’t really have the weapons to hurt him.
With that being said, why are we backing the over on games when the under seems more logical? It’s mostly due to Safiullin playing some of his best tennis in China.
There is just something about the conditions that suit him here as he’s playing well this year as well. Djokovic is a tough matchup, but we think we can push the over on this line because Djokovic is likely to struggle a little bit.
He was too good in the first two matches mostly because his opponents weren’t up to par. Safiullin is a serious player, and he’ll take the match very seriously.
He’s likely to serve strongly as well, so overall, it just reads like a matchup that could be somewhat close.
