Saturdays NAP of the Day

It was great to get back to winning ways with Bernadine doing it well yesterday. I was slightly surprised to see her price hold as it did, with 9/2 remaining available, though that was certainly a positive for anyone getting on later in the day. Onto Saturday.

10/1

As is usually the case on Saturday's, it’s a day filled with action, leaving punters a little spoiled for choice, which can be both a positive and a negative. For me, today’s card at Redcar is one to focus on, with the final race piquing my interest the most.

I’m of the opinion that Albegone, who was a little unlucky in running recently, is available at generous odds.

Finishing fourth in a race won by the re-opposing Our Absent Friends, the mount of Cam Hardie was denied a clear run last time out, but could gain compensation here, reversing the form with that rival, who is up in the handicap and may struggle to repeat those winning antics. After all, he appears to have plenty in favour.

High-ranking in terms of speed ratings, the six-year-old has twice placed at this venue, while he’s produced a string of efforts since his last win that suggest his next visit to the winner's enclosure is near. He also typically runs well at this time of year.

Back on good-to-soft, back in business?

Certainly not a hater of soft ground, Saturday’s conditions should suit, especially as the ground is expected to be good-to-soft.

What happened the last time this horse encountered good-to-soft at this level? He scooted home in the closing stages to win in cosy fashion at Catterick. He’s back down to that winning mark too.

Tim Easterby is absolutely no stranger to success at Redcar, and he does particularly well with a certain type of horse under certain conditions. Albegone meets that criteria.

Getting weight all around here, the well-handicapped gelding can make his presence felt considerably more than early odds of 10/1 would have us believe. Don’t be surprised if he gets heavily involved at the business end. With a generous-looking price on offer, I’m betting that he does just that.

Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is +£49.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
