Fritz vs Ruud Prediction and Betting Tips - French Open 2024

As the French Open 2024 final approaches, we can expect to see a lot of dramatic matches featuring prominent players. One such fourth-round clash is between Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune.

Whoever wins, will challenge Daniil Medvedev or Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals. Who should you pick to win this encounter? Read on for our Zverev vs Rune predictions and betting tips.

Zverev began his 2024 French Open campaign in impressive form, defeating Rafael Nadal in one of the tournament's most anticipated first-round clashes. In the second round, he cruised past David Goffin in straight sets.

However, in the third round against Tallon Griekspoor, Zverev was nearly defeated, with Griekspoor leading 4-1 in the final set before the German made an amazing comeback.

Former world No. 4 Holger Rune conquered his own five-set struggle in the second round against Flavio Cobolli, winning a final tiebreak to make it through. However, he defeated Dan Evans and Jozef Kovalik in straight sets in the first and third rounds, respectively.

The 21-year-old has struggled to regain the form that saw him close 2022 with an upset against Novak Djokovic to win the Paris Masters. However, with back-to-back quarter-finals at Roland-Garros already in his young career, if there’s ever a place for the Dane to rekindle form, it’s here.

How the Bookies View It: Zverev the Favourite

Bookmaker bet365 expects this match to be a close one. Zverev is the favourite at 2/5 to his win, but Rune isn’t far behind on 2/1. Set betting suggests a 3-0 win for Zverev, with this result paying 12/5.

Recent Head-to-Head: Rune Leads

The fourth-round matchup between Zverev and Rune is going to be their second encounter, with Rune leading the head-to-head 1-0. Their last match was in the second round in Munich in 2022, where Rune defeated Zverev 6-3, 6-2 on clay.

Anything Else Catch the Eye?

Zverev endured numerous challenges over the past two years. Two years ago, the German sustained a horrific ankle injury in the semi-finals of Roland-Garros. The fall resulted in him being wheeled off the court, and Zverev was sidelined for over a year.

However, the world No. 4 is back in form. Over his last two Grand Slams, Zverev has defeated players like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. He has maintained a remarkable 28-9 win-loss record and won 70% of break points this year to date.

Holger Rune's clay results have not been particularly promising. His efforts in Monte-Carlo, where he lost to Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals, are his finest on the surface this season. He didn’t do so well at the Madrid and Italian Opens either, where he was eliminated in the first rounds.

The Dane has a 19-11 win-loss record this season, and with the changes to his coaching team now appearing to be settled, Rune is returning to form just in time for Roland-Garros.

Zverev vs Rune Betting Tips & Predictions

Both Zverev and Rune have claimed hard-fought wins in the tournament to reach the fourth round, but only one of them can proceed to the quarterfinals. Despite Rune’s prodigal gameplay and sharp movements, Zverev is more likely to get the better of him with his experience and fortitude.

  • Zverev to win 3-1 @ 13/5
  • Rune +3.5 handicap @ 1/1

Zverev and Rune will tough it out on Court Philippe Chatrier, not before 8:15pm local time. While you wait, make sure to check out our overall men’s singles prediction for the French Open 2024.
