A week after a thrilling PGA Championship, the PGA Tour moves on to the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Texas. The winner of the season's second major last week, Xander Schauffele, won't be participating this week and neither will Rory McIlroy or Viktor Hovland.
However, the big news is that Scottie Scheffler will tee it up this weekend in Texas after a crazy weekend at the PGA Championship. Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know all about the world number one's arrest at Valhalla last Friday. With his arraignment date pushed back to 3 June, Scheffler wants to just go out and play some golf.
That's bad news for the rest of the field, as Scheffler has won four of the last six events he has played and was primed for another good weekend at Valhalla until those incredible scenes unfolded on Friday morning.
Who else could be in for a good week at the par-70 course in Fort Worth? Let's take a look.
Charles Schwab Challenge betting tips
Jordan Spieth E/W (10 places) – 18/1
Jordan Spieth is still far from his best and there are legitimate concerns about the severity of his wrist injury and whether he will ever be the same player again. However, if there is a tournament to get him back inside the winner's circle then it's this one given his success at Colonial Country Club over the years.
The Texan naturally feels at home around here and has six top-ten finishes at this tournament, including a win in 2016. Spieth missed the cut for the first time at this event last year, so he will be more determined than ever to bounce back in style. He didn't play too badly at the PGA Championship last week, finishing six-under par.
Spieth has been very complimentary about the course in the build-up to the tournament and has openly admitted that he enjoys playing here. A happy Spieth in front of a home crowd will be a dangerous opponent to anyone should he be in contention on Sunday.
Brian Harman top 10 finish – 7/2
The firmness of the greens at Colonial Country Club, combined with its short(ish) length should mean a good week for players with an impressive short game. The 2023 Open Championship winner, Brian Harman, is famed for having an electric short game and after battling away at the incredibly long Valhalla last week, this course will feel his prize for sticking with it.
Harman has historically done well around Colonial Country Club, with six top-25 finishes to his name and an eith-place finish a few years back. Harman hasn't had the greatest of seasons so far, but he still ranks inside the top 20 on the PGA Tour for shots gained on the greens, demonstrating that he is still very much an elite putter.
Harman is also ranked 12th on the PGA this season for three-putt avoidance, something that could be crucial this week given how firm the greens are expected to be.
Justin Rose top 20 finish – 21/10
Justin Rose enjoyed a fabulous week at the PGA Championship last week in a performance that most felt came out of nowhere. The reality is that Rose is no longer the player he was once was – not many are at the age of 43 – but he still showed how phenomenal his iron and approach play can be when he's on his game.
Rose is another player who has enjoyed great success at this tournament over the years which make a top-20 finish well within his grasp. He won the event back in 2018 and performed well here last year, finishing in a tie for 12th.
