Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wolves

, KO: 20:00 Jan 22, 2024, Amex Stadium
Wolves

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Amex on Monday night.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side ended 2023 with a terrific 4-2 win over Tottenham before being held to a 0-0 draw at West Ham in early January.

The Seagulls have since sealed their passage to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-2 win away at Stoke City.

Albion now turn their attention back to league matters when they come up against Wolves in the top-flight’s final fixture of matchday 21.

Gary O’Neil’s side rounded off an excellent festive period by making it three league wins on the spin with a 3-0 success against Everton.

The Molineux outfit have since booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-2 extra-time win over Brentford, in a game that brought up my solitary selection.

Outright Betting

Brighton & Hove Albion, who have lost just one of their 10 Premier League home games this season, are odds-on 4/7 favourites at William Hill.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have lost each of their last four league meetings with Brighton and the bookies expect them to suffer the same fate here, with an away win chalked up at 4/1 (Bet 365) while a share of the south coast spoils pays 3/1 (BetVictor).

Betting Angles

Goals could well be on the menu on Monday night but there is little value in the traditional goals-based markets so I’ll instead opt for a player-based selection.

Wolves defender Craig Dawson has been priced up at 4/5 with PaddyPower to commit a solitary foul during this South Coast clash and that price holds plenty of appeal.

The no-nonsense defender has never been one to shy away from throwing his weight around and that is evidenced by the fact that he has committed an average of one foul per-game across his overall 339 top-flight appearances.

In terms of this season, Dawson is averaging 0.9 fouls per 90 in the Premier League, getting on the wrong side of the referee at least once in six of Wolves’ last nine league games.

In fact, the seasoned Premier League centre-half  has clocked up a total of 10 fouls across that stretch of nine games and he should be kept busy here given the pace and flair that Brighton possess in forward areas.

With that in mind, coupled with the fact that Dawson has already picked up five yellow cards in 18 Premier League appearances this season, siding with the Wolves stopper to be reprimanded just once stands out at 4/5 (PaddyPower).

I’m also prepared to take it one step further and back the Wolves defender to commit two or more fouls during this game at 7/2 with PaddyPower.

This bet would have paid out in two of Dawson's last three Premier League outings so siding with the same selection on Monday night looks worthy of a small investment at a big price.
