RANGERS left it late against Hearts…very late indeed and now face one of the real surprise packets of the Scottish Premiership when they go to play Dundee on Wednesday.
Philippe Clement looked set to be heading for his first defeat as new Ibrox boss after Hearts led at Ibrox for 86 of the 90 minutes before a controversial VAR penalty in the last minute of regulation time and a late header from Danilo in the nine minutes of injury time turned the game on its head.
The Belgian praised his team afterward for their spirit, but he must know that display was pretty awful, devoid of any attacking creativity and completely lacking in ideas.
Hearts were actually very comfortable before Peter Harong's moment of madness and Lawrence Shankland had terrified Rangers. If they are realistic about challenging Celtic, a major performance upgrade is required.
Dundee are their highest position for years as they sit pretty in fifth place. Although their weekend win at Livingston was just their second league win since they were promoted to the Premiership again, they have only lost two games too and one of them was at Celtic, the other at high-flying St Mirren.
Tony Docherty appears to have done a great job so far for Dundee and this is an intriguing contest.
How the bookies view it
Rangers are huge favourites here at 2/5 with McBookie.com. Dundee can be backed at 7/1 with bet365 and the draw is 4/1 with 888sport.
Recent head to heads
The sides met last season in the League Cup and Rangers edged to a 1-0 home win.
Rangers have won the last five meetings and Dundee haven't tasted success against them since a 2017 win at Dens Park.
Players to watch
Danilo was Rangers' hero on Sunday with that injury time winner over Hearts and the Brazilian is 6/5 with bet365 to score at Dens Park.
Zak Rudden could be an interesting runner here. The ex-Rangers striker is a hard worker and a threat. He is 5/1 to get his name on the scoresheet with bet365.
Anything else catch the eye?
Dundee have a great chance of thwarting Rangers here if they keep the disciplined approach that has served them so well and the draw kings of the Premiership can add another point to their collection.
They have now kept three clean sheets in a row and will be a tough nut for Rangers to break. There was nothing in that Rangers performance on Sunday that suggested they can hammer anyone with too many passengers in the team like Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers.
Playing away from Ibrox might actually suit Rangers because of the toxic atmosphere inside their home ground any time a pass goes astray, but this Dundee defence is well organised.
It could be a low-scoring affair too and take Paddy Power's 7/5 for under 2.5 goals.
