It has only been a month since we watched Manchester City beat Inter Milan in Istanbul to complete a memorable treble.
But qualifying for the next Champions League started a fortnight ago and there are some intriguing first-round clashes tonight.
Shamrock Rovers have already made history as the first Irish team to reach the group stage of the Europa League.
Matching that feat in Europe’s top tier is one hell of an ask and they have a tricky opener against Icelandic side Breidablik.
Rovers aren’t in great form, having gone two games without a win, but still top the table in Ireland while Breidablik only sit third in their league.
So the Irish side look decent value at 31/40 (Betway) for a win at home while Breidablik are 19/5 shots (Ladbrokes).
Breidablik have been scoring pretty freely so over 2.5 goals stands a good chance and that’s 20/23 with Betfair.
Lincoln Red Imps have previous for springing shocks on home soil in Gibraltar, having famously defeated Celtic 1-0 in Brendan Rodgers’ first game in charge.
But they are 14/1 outsiders with Bet365 against a Qarabag side who have played group stage football in all three UEFA competitions.
The one thing that might work in the minnows’ favour is that the league has yet to start in Azerbaijan so Qarabag might be a bit rusty.
That makes me think most goals could come after that break, a bet that pays 7/6 with VBet.
Qarabag knocked out Ferencvaros last season and the Hungarians have come up short since reaching the group stage in 2020.
They begin this European campaign in the Faroes against Klaksvik and are hot favourites at a best 7/15 (VBet).
Ferencvaros are coming into this game cold as well but should have too much firepower for their hosts and I like over 2.5 away goals at 7/4 (Unibet).
Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees Greg head to the Korean top flight, and there is one fixture in particular that appeals to him for goals and cards.

Compare that to wins against Kudermetova, Vekic & Bouzkova who are all very solid on grass. Vondrousova’s variety, slices & movement should cause Pegula issues, who herself has admitted to not being a massive fan of the grass service.

I don’t believe that Svitolina has the game to cause Swiatek issues who mainly struggles with big serving, heavy hitters. The last grueling match against Azarenka may also have an impact on Svitolina physically here.

Safiullin has done well to get to this stage but Sinner should be too good. On grass it would favour him even more and I would be surprised if he dropped more than a set. As outlined above I believe Swiatek will have too many weapons for Svitolina.

Hamrun Spartans look a huge price at 8/1 (bet365) at home to Maccabi Haifa. They only conceded 10 goals on the way to the domestic title last season, and had a good run in European qualifiers last season too, pushing Partizan Belgrade hard in the final play offs for the Conference League. Maccabi have lost their coach and the services of Josh Cohen, who is an international goalkeeper for the USA. On a bone hard pitch in Malta I can see this one being closer than the betting suggests.

Djokovic is arguably the greatest returner in tennis history & neither player is renowned for hitting large numbers of aces. I think this line is a little higher based on the previous matches of both. Rublev was involved in a long 5 setter against Bublik & Djokovic in a tight match against the big serving Hurkacz. Assuming Djokovic gets this done relatively comfortably this should be ok.

I think the aces line is a little low here. Vondrousova’s lefty out wide serve could prove dangerous on grass & either player has the potential to hit this line themselves especially if it is a close match. Pegula is so far averaging 2.5 aces & Vondrousova 2.25. Should have a chance. This is a big match for both players who have never reached this stage of Wimbledon before. Pegula has yet to advance to a semi final at any of the grand slams & only once has Vondrousova even made it to this stage back in 2019 when she was the runner up at the French Open. Nerves could well kick in especially when closing out the match which could lead to double faults.

Djokovic-Rublev
I was debating this one earlier along with Sinner to win 3-0 but opted against them. I fancy Djokovic to want to finish this quickly & not drag this on following having to play 3 days in a row. Rublev also had a very long match against Rublev and his hands were visibly very blistered which is not going to help at all in this match up. This line covers the possibility of a tighter set and is better value than Djokovic to win 3-0 which only pays around 1.7.
