MANCHESTER UNITED will be aiming to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Erik ten Hag's team threw away a two-goal lead when drawing 2-2 with Tottenham in what was a pulsating contest in the capital Thursday night.
That setback means the Red Devils have dropped below Newcastle into fourth position, six points in front of Spurs having played two games fewer.
United will now turn their attention to tightening their grip on a Champions League place when fellow European hopefuls Aston Villa come to town.
After drawing 1-1 at Brentford last weekend, Unai Emer's side got back in the winning groove with a well-deserved 1-0 win over Fulham on Tuesday night.
As such, Villa remain sixth as they also chase a spot in Europe and they certainly won't be fazed by the task in hand when they head to the Theatre of Dreams this weekend.
Outright Betting
Manchester United, who haven't lost a Premier League game at Old Trafford since the opening day of the season, go into their latest home game as 3/4 (William Hill) favourites.
Aston Villa's only away defeat in eight road trips under Unai Emery came across town at Manchester City and the bookmakers' believe they will suffer the same fate here, with an away win trading at 18/5 (Bet 365) whilst the draw has been priced up at 3/1 (William Hill).
Betting Angles
I suspect this contest could be a lot closer than the bookies' odds suggest so I'll head to the Bet Builder market and bundle up Aston Villa to Score and Each Team to Receive a Card at 4/5 (Bet 365).
Aston Villa have improved dramatically as an attacking force since Unai Emery took charge and that is evidenced by the fact that they have scored in each of their 20 Premier League outings under the Spaniard's watch.
That sequence includes visits to the likes of Brighton, Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham so they're certainly capable of carving out scoring opportunities against a Man United side whose defensive injury list shows no signs of shrinking
The Red Devils were unable to call upon the services of a number of their regular defenders in the aforementioned 2-2 draw with Spurs on Thursday, so their patched up rearguard could struggle to contain an Aston Villa side that have developed a handy knack for hitting the back of the net.
I'll therefore back Villa to score at Old Trafford, but to round off the Bet Builder, I'll also back each side to pick up a card in what should be a closely-fought contest.
Both of these teams are residing in the upper echelons of the Premier League fair play table, with Manchester United averaging 2.10 yellow cards per-game this season, while Villa are not far behind with their tally of 1.97
It's also worth pointing out that this particular Bet Builder would have paid out in five of Aston Villa's last six matches and that only adds to the temptation of supporting the same 4/5 (Bet 365) shot at Old Trafford on Sunday.
On a similar line of reasoning to the above, I'll also go with the 4/5 on offer with Bet 365 for this fixture to feature Over 3.5 Cards.
Six of the visitors' last seven league games have delivered a minimum of four match cards and there's plenty of reason to believe the Over 3.5 Card barrier could be breached here if Villa can keep this contest competitive .
