Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the return of La Liga, and there’s one fixture in particular that stands out to me for goals at both ends.

La Liga returns tomorrow afternoon at the Estadi Montilivi, as 13th-placed Girona play host to eighth-placed Rayo Vallecano.
Girona entered the World Cup break in great nick, collecting eight points from their last four matches – including back-to-back wins over Athletic Club and Elche and a point at the Bernabéu over European champions Real Madrid. Míchel’s men have found the back of the net in 12/14 of their La Liga fixtures this season – including each of their previous 11 – scoring 20 times. However, The Blanquivermells are one of two clubs – along with bottom-side Elche – yet to record a single clean sheet in La Liga this season, conceding 22 goals.
Rayo Vallecano also entered the World Cup break in great form, unbeaten in each of their previous six La Liga encounters – including that memorable 3-2 victory over Real Madrid – to leave them in eighth position and just four points behind third-placed Real Sociedad. Andoni Iraola’s visitors have found the back of the net in 10/14 of their La Liga fixtures this season – including in 6/7 away from home – scoring on 20 occasions. Los Franjirrojos have conceded in 9/14 of their La Liga matches, conceding on 20 occasions.
Bet of the Day
Perhaps, the World Cup break came at the wrong time for both Girona and Rayo Vallecano, with the hosts having won back-to-back matches for the first time this season, whilst Rayo was on a six-match unbeaten run.
Both teams to score has landed in a joint-league high 12/14 (86%) of Girona’s fixtures in La Liga this season – including in each of their previous 11 – and given both have gotten on the scoresheet in 8/14 (57%) of Rayo’s league fixtures this season, I reckon there is a good chance we’ll see the pair get on the scoresheet in Catalonia on Thursday afternoon.
