Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on one of the two World Cup Quarter-Finals and I’m backing the Portuguese to have just enough to defeat Morocco.

⚽️ Morocco 🇲🇦 vs Portugal 🇵🇹

🏆 World Cup 🌍

⏰ Saturday 10th December, 15:00

Surprise package Morocco takes on Portugal at the Al-Thumama Stadium in the third of four World Cup Quarter-Finals, and I’m backing the Portuguese to edge their way into the Semi-Finals.

Morocco surprised many in Group F, as they collected seven points from a possible nine to finish top, above Croatia, Belgium and Canada. Walid Regragui’s side put in a defensive masterclass against the 2010 Champions Spain in the Round of 16, as they forced a penalty shootout after a goalless 120 minutes. PSG full-back Achraf Hakimi Panenka sealed The Atlas Lions’ first-ever appearance in the World Cup Quarter-Finals and are the only African nation remaining in the tournament.

Despite a defeat against South Korea in their final group match, wins over Ghana and Uruguay proved to be enough to top Group H for the Portuguese. Much of the build-up to their Last 16 clash with Switzerland was dominated by the dropping of Cristiano Ronaldo, but Fernando Santos made the correct call as his side put in one of the best performances in Qatar so far with a 6-1 thrashing of Switzerland.

Bet of the Day

Morocco have been resolute defensively in this tournament, having already shut out Croatia, Belgium and Spain for 90 minutes plus extra time. However, I reckon that gruelling 120 minutes against the Spanish will take a little bit out of the North African nation.

Portugal have banged in 12 goals across their four World Cup matches here in Qatar, and whilst I don’t expect this fixture to be a high-scorer, I reckon The Seleção will do just enough to win inside 90 minutes and seal their first World Cup Semi-Final since 2006.
