Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me once more focus on the Champions League and there’s one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.

RB Leipzig vs Celtic

🇪🇺 Champions League

⏰ Wednesday 5th October, 17:45

Two teams still searching for their first win in Group F go head-to-head on Wednesday, as Celtic travel to Saxony to take on RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig followed up their 1-4 thrashing at home to Shakhtar Donetsk by losing 2-0 away at reigning champions Real Madrid to leave them bottom and pointless in Group F. Domestically, Marco Rose’s men bounced back from their 3-0 defeat at Gladbach with a resounding 4-0 victory at home to basement boys Bochum. Die Roten Bullen have found the back of the net in all five of their competitive fixtures at home this season, scoring on 12 occasions. However, last year's Europa League semi-finalists have conceded in 7/10 of their Bundesliga and Champions League fixtures this season, with two of those clean sheets coming against strugglers Wolfsburg and Bochum.

After eventually suffering a 0-3 loss at home to Real Madrid, Celtic claimed their first point in Group F by drawing 1-1 in Poland against Shakhtar Donetsk. Celtic bounced back from their first Scottish Premiership defeat of the season with a 2-1 victory at home to Motherwell – regaining top spot from bitter rivals Rangers. Ange Postecoglou’s men have found the back of the net a whopping 27 times in their eight league fixtures this season, as well as netting on Matchday 2 in Warsaw. Since the start of last season, The Hoops have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their eight European matches on their travels, conceding on multiple occasions in seven of them.

RB Leipzig vs Celtic Match Preview

Bet of the Day

Both RB Leipzig and Celtic come into this fixture occupying the bottom two spots in Group F and know a win is vital in their quest of playing European football in the new year. Both sides are far better going forward than they are defensively, and I’m expecting an open game at the Red Bull Arena that sees plenty of goals.

Leipzig have struck 12 times in their five Bundesliga and Champions League fixtures at home this season, and I expect them to net at least once against a Celtic side that has a terrible defensive record when playing away from home in Europe. However, Die Roten Bullen have struggled defensively themselves this season, and I can see Celtic’s potent attack contributing in a match that features at least three goals.
