It's been a long old summer for those waiting for the Premier League to return but the wait will soon be over this evening when Crystal Palace welcome Arsenal to Selhurst Park.
There's a real air of optimism around Mikel Arteta's side at the moment. A 4-0 win over Chelsea and a thumping 6-0 over Sevilla in pre-season has the Gunners' tails up. The addition of Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko look shrewd pieces of business and Arteta has moved to make Martin Ødegaard his new skipper.
A fifth-placed finish wasn't good enough last season so there's work to be done by the Spaniard but they've a kind run of fixtures to start the season, only playing one side that finished top six last season (Man Utd) between now and October.
Palace finished a very creditable 12th last term but it's been fairly quiet on the transfer front with midfielder Cheick Doucoure grabbing the headlines with his £21m move from Lens.
The Eagles won 3-0 the last time Arsenal visited but manager, and Gunners legend, Patrick Vieira knows it's very different side he'll meet tonight. The bookies rate the visitors 4/5 favourites to start the season with a win while Palace look a bit more generous at 10/3.

Cheers Radu,btts is my main bet but the golden rule is not to read into friendly results,if we were going on that basis then Palace would be well in with a shout as they had a good pre-season to.The fact that it’s a derby and the first game of the season makes it that little bit tougher for the visitors.My own opinion is Arsenal will be better with Jesus in attack as that is what they have lacked.Zinchenko is a good signing but Arsenal still lack a decent central defender a leader at the back.
