For a while, it looked as though it was Rory McIlory's destiny to write his name into the history books by claiming the 150th Open Championship but Cameron Smith had other ideas.
The Australian carded a stunning eight under par 64 to win by a shot ahead of Cameron Young, with McIlroy finishing in third.
McIlroy had his chances but it wasn't to be on this occasion and Smith took full advantage with five successive birdies helping him to a -20 scorecard. But Rory's each-way finish still means some profit for those who followed The Caddy's advice and backed him at 10/1.

In all fairness, he didn’t do a lot wrong, two under for his final round,, just the group in front had sensational rounds of 64 and 65, tremendous under pressure, Rory had the same sort of round yesterday that Smith had on Saturday, but anyone who hits two rounds of 64 and a 66 is going to be very hard to beat in a major.

What I’ve noticed about Norway is that when sides play teams around them, it’s not the cagey affair we often get here in the UK. In Norway, they go for it. This logic has played a big part in this bet, along with a fair amount of stats – of course! I’m an English teacher by trade so it’s ironic that I love stats so much. But it probably explains these essays!✍🏻😂
Anyway… Asane v Skeid is a game that both teams will be targeting to win. Asane stand just above the drop zone, Skeid second bottom and 7 points off safety. These games are must win for them now. Asane have seen o2.5 goals in 7 of their last 9, in all of their last 4 at home and in 6/7 overall at home. They’ve kept no clean sheets and scored in all but 2.
Skeid are awful away from home, they’ve not scored in 4 away games but when you look closer, 3 of them are against top sides. The last time they played someone lower down, they scored 2 in a 3-2 loss. I fancy Skeid to attack Asane’s leaky defence and contribute today. 10 of Skeids 12 games so far have gone over 2.5, they’ve kept no clean sheets and conceded 2+ in 10/12 games.
Sandnes are seeing loads of goals. They’ve seen o2.5 goals/BTTS (this bet is 20/23 and I seriously considered it) in their last 6 games and have gone o2.5 in 11/14 league games. Sandnes have scored in every away game except at Brann (we can forgive them for that) and should contribute at least 1.
Start are inconsistent this season and haven’t scored in their last 3 home games. However, 2 is those were against Brann and Stabæk (2 best teams in the league) and I think they’ll be targeting this game to get back on track and jump in to the play offs spots above Sandnes. The main reason I added this fixture is the head to head record. There’s always goals between these two. At Start’s ground, the last 6 have all gone over 2.5 (2-2,3-2,2-1,5-1,3-3,7-0). I’m backing Start to rediscover their early season scoring form and go all out attack in this must win game today.
