CELTIC keeper Fraser Forster could find himself on a plane to Brazil if England qualify for the World Cup after punters backed him into 4-1 from 5-1 to make the tournament.

Forster, dubbed “The Great Wall” by the Spanish press after his performance against Barcelona in the Champions League last November has continued to impress against the best in Europe.

And McBookie.com have cut his odds of making the England World Cup squad to 4-1 after good support following last night’s 1-0 defeat to Barcelona and Joe Hart's shockers in Man Ciy's 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.

McBookie.com spokesman Paul Petrie said: “Our odds of 4-1 still might be too big as Forster as proven himself on a big stage such as the Champions League unlike most of those chasing the second keeper spot behind Hart.

“And who knows if Hart continues to make blunders like the ones against Bayern Munich then Forster could be the next England No.1.

great shout Mr F everytime I’ve seen Fraser Forster he’s been absolutely fantastic, for me he’s banker to go the world cup barring injury

Yeah I agree not because I’m a celtic fan but he’s proved he can handle strikers at top level just can’t see roy Hodgson upsetting the apple cart but hope he does even a full cap as it’s well deserved

Great shot stopper and big game player but at 6’5″ he should be dominating his area more convincingly. Not the greatest at cross balls but neither is Hart with his punching policy. If I had the choice of either I’d take Forster as he’s been more consistent over the last 2 years and seems too be improving whereas Hart has stalled and we are seeing more and more basic errors creeping into his game

Am i missing something here or is 4/1 massive?

England managers always lean towards what the press say, and with the press now jumping on the Hart v Forster debate he is a cert for the squad.

Just for the record I have been talking up him as a potential no.1 since Harts errors away to Madrid start of last season, he is far to cocky for my liking.

Joe.B, I think the price is a big (and when I first received it you could have 5-1) but you have to factor in he could get injured and he plays in Scotland. Roy Hodgson seems to judge him on the Champions League displays and he usually does well on that stage. Maybe loses his concentration sometimes in the SPFL. Hart’s made some mistakes recently but can’t see him being dumped as No.1 so he’ll be in Rio, probably with John Ruddy. So the third spot should be between Forster, Foster and Butland and I’d say on current form it should be Forster. England of course have to get their first!

Can still get 5/1 with Stan James.

But yes that just dawned on me, they have to qualify first, i assume the bookies wouldnt be so kind to void bets if they didnt qualify :)

The only way i can see him not getting in barring injury is if Celtic go out of Europe (no europa league) then the press backing of him will go quiet as the SPL isnt as glamourous as the Premier League. I cannot emphasise enough how much i think the press have an impact of squad selections.

Joe.B, pretty sure stakes would be refunded if England didn’t qualify.

If i was Spurs i’d get in a bid for him to cover for Lloris as Brad Friedel might pack it in soon enough, he’d be very welcome at the lane :-)

John, going to Spurs and not getting a game – how will that help his World Cup ambitions?

John I don’t see him swapping first team football at Celtic for a place on Spurs bench. That was the reason he left Newcastle in the first place,he is too good too be back up at any club nevermind Spurs

Cannot get my head around this to be honest.

Just been checking prices on the keepers.

    Butland is EVS

How can he be EVS on loan at a championship club and a Champs League keeper in the form of his life be 5/1?

I know injuries etc make it a risk however thats football, i am seriously looking at lumping on this. Stan James are voiding if England dont qualify.

Championship is a better league than spfl

Agreed, but that’s not my point.

My point is Forster is not only playing but playing very well in the Champions League which surely puts him ahead of a championship keeper?

Tony, it’s down to money. The Championship is one of the top or sixrichest leagues in the world so of course it will be better than SPFL which has tiny revenues in comparison.

Tony league 1 is a better standard than the SPFL out with Celtic tbh

He is the best keeper in Europe full stop.reckon Celtic will get 10 to 15 million for him next summer.his performances in the champions league games have been world class,he hardly ever makes a mistake even in SPL games.only flaw in his game is coming for cross balls, but he is still young and will only get better.

Going by what we see on TV Joe Hart is becoming a liability and the pressure may well be upped on Man City as they will be expected to do better than Man Utd given Moyes shaky start. I don’t think this is a blip in Harts career, I just don’t believe Man City cannot find a better keeper and come January his place may well be in jeopardy if Pellogrini decides to spend big on a decent keeper. Forster does everything that is asked of him and again maybe with all this World Cup talk he may well move down south come January.

It’s just about opinion. Foster best in Europe no chance. He is having a good season so far.

      Rory,

It was 5/1 with Stan James yesterday.

Within 48 hours their market is taken off their site and the best you can get is 10/11 with other bookies.

      Hmmmm, what to say?

Joe.B, Forster must be getting backed then, that’s what forced price cuts.
