IT was a dramatic transfer deadline day in Scotland yesterday with more activity than probably the last three January windows combined.
Clubs the length and breadth of the country were busy making signings and loan deals right up to the last minute and its great to see with the leagues going from strength to strength,
If you were to ask which fans are most pleased, excited and over whelmed by their clubs dealings during the window, you'll be hard pressed to find any happier then Dundee United.
The Arabs hierarchy have thrown the check book out and have backed Robbie Nielson to get them back to Scottish Premiership, they really cant afford another season in the championship with that budget, its a gamble but one I feel will pay dividends.
They made no fewer than 11 signings in January and could make up an entirely new starting 11 with the players covering each possible position,
The critical thing for me though is these aren't desperate signings of unknown lower league English players, a lot of the signings are players who know the Scottish game inside out having played top flight football for years and will more than do a job in the championship:
Key Signings:
- Cammy Smith – played over 50 games for st Mirren and arguably on of their best players and huge coup
- Mark Reynolds – played over 400 games in Scotland for Aberdeen and Motherwell , a really experienced addition
- Osman Sow – Was a huge hit when he was at Hearts scoring 20 goals in 40 games, a player Neilson knows well
- Peter Pawlett – 10 years spent at Aberdeen playing 170 games – direct player and will cause teams problems
- Mark Connolly – Former Kilmarnock captain, played 36 games for them and back after three seasons at Crawly
- Callum Butcher – Second stint at United having spent 4 season down south racking up 120 appearances
Verdict:
Yes, you could argue it takes time for such a large number of new players to gel but there's no denying United have made some really impressive signings and have strengthened their squad.
They are only 6 points behind leaders Ross County who look really skinny at a best priced 8/11
Manager Robbie Neilson has the ammunition and the experience in his squad to mount a serious title challenge and I'd be surprised if they didn't go up as champions (worst case via the playoff's)
They are massive 5/1 which I think is huge considering the signings they have made (was 6/1 yesterday)
Recommended Bet:
- Dundee United to win the Scottish Championship
- 5/1 (Ladbrokes)
- Dundee Untied to be promoted
- (looking for a price)
Greg, I’ve got them tomorrow to score 2+goals @3/4, they’ve made some great signings. Should go close to automatic promotion. Cheers, Desmond
They’re on my fivefold – hopefully new boys get up and running quickly.
Note a few games off in Scotland – League Two wiped out apart from the Edinburgh game.
Looks a cracking price for tomorrow mate ??
Good luck ⚽️⚽️
I’m on them a few weeks ago at 6/1 also done a double with Clyde to win league two 13/2
Can get them each way on sky bet if this helps. Quarter odds if they come 2nd so getting odds of 1.5 still gives u profit. Surely won’t stay 3rd with that squad.
Sorry?, obviously 1.5 doesn’t give u profit but will cover half your bet
