JOSHUA v POVETKIN
Saturday September 22. Heavyweight title fight. Wembley Stadium. Live on Sky Box office
ANTHONY JOSHUA has hammered his way through the heavy division in some style, with youth and sheer physical presence on his side coupled with a calm and focused temperament far beyond his years.
The egregious and childlike Deontay Wilder and the comedy roadshow that is Tyson Fury both want a piece of the low-key Londoner before he becomes the finished article but a surly Russian stands in everyone's way.
Saturday night sees a clash between Joshua and Povetkin and despite the 1-9 forgone conclusion available on a Joshua win I don't think it will go all his way at all.
Joshua's camp are already looking past the hardy Russian to an April clash with Wilder. This is a big mistake. It is extremely likely Joshua will win this despite a seemingly unhappy training camp during the build-up.
It's his seventh world title fight and he is the one with everything to lose. Povetkin is like the Terminator and doesn't seem to know when he's beaten even when knocked down.
I think this will wobble Joshua and at the very least we will see the fight go all the way. The 3-1 on the fight to go to the cards is pretty generous and worth a bet.
Recommended bet
- Will the fight go the distance YES (3-1, Betfair)
Got to disagree with you Andy.Watched Povetkins last fight & although he has a mean punch,he won’t get near Joshua. 1st Rd KO for the big man.
Also on the undercard there’s Okolie vs Askin for the British strap.
I believe this has a good chance of going the distance and would favour Okolie.
Okolie WIN points @11/4 bet365
Also albeit lower odds Campbell vs Mendy rematch.
Campbell much improved over the last 3 years and will box and move his way to a decision win.
Campbell WIN points @4/6 bet365
Enjoy the match-ups
Cheers
@drogers – yep very much my line of thinking on these two fights mate. Albeit I’m slightly more unsure on the Okolie fight. Askin will probably struggle, like most, to get inside against Okolie, but I see him being a lot braver than say, Chamberlain, was against him. That might mean him eventually getting caught with something big. Hence I prefer the double chance of:
Okolie rounds 7-12 or points 11/10 (SkyBet)
Totally agree on the Campbell fight. Mendy will try and walk him down like last time, but I like you I think Campbell’s improved enough since then to be able to cope and probably fairly comfortably.
Campbell by unanimous decision 11/8 (SkyBet)
Double pays 3/1
Sorry 4/1 for double.
Yes indeed Mr Smith, very confident on Campbell and I like the rnds 7-12/points on Okolie as well, I may put a bit on that.
I’m hoping as it’s for the British title to go with Okolie’s other belts he may just be a bit more cautious as Askin is tough and will be up for this.
Enjoy it tonight and best of luck.
Cheers
Okolie obliges and wins the borefest on points but what a woeful performance that was.
Still ⭐️11/4 WIN⭐️ The betting bank looks a bit more handsome ✅
Onto the Campbell fight…..
@drogers nice wins mate!
Thanks Mr Smith.
We both had that spot on.
Next weekend is Groves vs Smith, very close that one but I would slightly lean towards Smith as he is fresher, younger and now has his chance to prove himself.
Cheers
Think I probably favour Groves to be honest. Not that i’ve looked into the odds yet mind. Looking forward to the fight though.
Andy, worth pointing out that Joshua by unanimous decision (the most likely outcome should it go the distance) is 4/1 with Betway.
I agree with all of you , I have spent the last few days watching povetkin previous fights and he is really awkward , Like I said I think it likely that Joshua will win but……povetkin is a slightly different proposition than Joshua is used to and he is relentless .
