LAS VEGAS will be serving up another feast of boxing for nocturnal fight fans tonight.
Lemieux v O'Sullivan
First up is what’s sure to be a bruising middleweight encounter, with David Lemieux and Gary O’Sullivan seeking to settle their social media generated bad blood in the ring.
Both are hard hitting and neither have renowned engines, so expect a slug fest from the get go. A victory you feel is crucial for both if future aspirations of world titles are to be maintained, so expect them both to go with Plan A, which is to get the other guy out of there as soon as possible.
With that in mind, the unders rounds market is the most appealing for bigger stakes, with u7.5 rounds available at 11/10 and u8.5 at 5/6, both with Skybet.
This is sure to be an entertaining fight and I expect both fighters to have success, but for me Lemieux is the classier, harder hitting fighter, with better experience behind him, so if he can avoid the KO, I expect him to prevail within the 12 rounds at medium stakes.
You can get on Lemieux to win by KO/TKO/DQ at 19/17 with Marathonbet, or a widely available 10/11 elsewhere. I’ll also be having a nibble at Lemieux in rounds 5-8 at 3/1 with Coral and Lemieux in the 7th at 14/1 with Bet365.
Recommended Bets
- Under 8.5 Rounds 5/6 Skybet
- Lemieux to win by KO/TKO/DQ 19/17 Marathonbet
- Lemieux in Rounds 5-8 3/1 Coral
- Lemieux in Round 7 14/1 Bet365
Gennady Golovkin v Saul Canelo Álvarez
THE main event is sure to be another gripping instalment of what you expect will be a boxing trilogy to remember, as two classy operators collide again a year on from a disputed draw.
I thought Golovkin did enough to take the victory against Canelo Alvarez a year ago and I expect this fight to go down a similar path.
Golovkin showed an iron chin in the first fight and although the older fighter, he has a 2 round demolition job against Martirosyan to his name in between, whilst a failed drugs test has rendered Canelo inactive for the past year. There’s nothing to suggest that Golovkin’s chin has weakened and Canelo has become stronger in that time.
Equally, it’s unlikely Golovkin will have found more power, so again distance markets seem the safe bet here, with the fight to go all the way to points available at 8/15 with Skybet, Paddy and Betfair.
I expect Golovkin to execute the same game plan as before, and use his stalking attack and strong chin to keep the pressure on Canelo and win the majority of rounds throughout the fight, although this time I expect him to get the decision. Medium stakes will be on Golovkin by decision at 9/4 with Sporting Bet, 11/5 at Ladbrokes, or a widely available 2/1 elsewhere.
It wouldn’t be boxing without some controversy, and I can see a third fight being set up here, so Golovkin by a split decision is worth a nibble at 11/1 with Betway and Ladbrokes.
I’ll also be on the Lemieux / O’Sullivan u8.5 rounds and Golovkin / Canelo to go the distance at 1.81/1 with Skybet and the Lemieux by KO/TKO/DQ, Golovkin by Decision double at a tasty 5.11/1 with Ladbrokes.
Recommended Bets
- Golovkin by decision 9/4 Sportingbet
- Golvkin by split decision 11/1 Betway, Ladbrokes
- Doubles
- Lemieux / O’Sullivan U8.5 rounds & Golovkin / Canelo to go the distance 1.81/1 Skybet
- Lemieux by KO/TKO/DQ & Golovkin by decision 5.11/1 Ladbrokes
Get the coffee in or the alarms set, but either way make sure you tune in tonight! Good luck fight fans!!
