THE European Tour returns to normality after a great final day at Carnoustie on Sunday.
It moves to Germany for the Porsche European Open at Green Eagle Golf Courses near Hamburg.
A few US-based players who were at Carnoustie have decided to play here with Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau and Paul Casey among the noteworthies.
The Green Eagle Golf Courses is a collection of 42 holes across three courses. The North Course is being used this week and it’s a brute. Driving Distance, GIR and Scrambling could be key stats here.
COURE: Green Eagles Golf Courses, North Course: 7583 yards, Par 72.
Alexander Levy
Frenchman Levy seems to like this course a lot. He won here in 2016 then last year lost out to Jordan Smith after two extra holes.
He looked like he was retaining the title walking down the 18th but couldn’t match Smith’s birdie and the match went on to extra holes. Levy missed a tiddler at the first extra hole to win then Smith the next to take the title.
Although the Frenchman hasn’t been in the best of form recently he showed last year form isn’t a prerequisite here when he turned up having not made a top 20 in his last five outings.
He needs to get his skates on if he wants to qualify for the Ryder Cup in his home country.
- Driving Distance: 304 yards (47th). GIR: 71.6% (51st). Scrambling: 56.3% (108th).
Scott Hend
I’ve been waiting a while for Hend to get some form back and he did it with a bang at Gullane two weeks ago. The Australian hit three sub-70 rounds but a 63 in the third round really stood out.
He has won eight times in all Tours since 2012 so if he is in contention on Sunday he will certainly know how to close it out.
In his last six outings he has had four top 14s and hopefully he can continue that form into this week. He is a big hitter and likes to attack a course which will probably suit him here.
Driving Distance: 305.2 yards (37th). GIR: 69.1% (103rd). Scrambling: 53.6% (156th).
