MONDAY was a no bet day for me but there's plenty to look at on Tuesday with Champions League qualifiers and the latest group games in the not so punter friendly Betfred Cup.
In the Champions League it's getting serious and there are some good-looking ties such as Astana v Midtjylland, Cluj v Malmo, PAOK v Basel and Dinamo Zagreb v Hapoel. Celtic are in action against Rosenborg on Wednesday with the winners facing AEK Athens.
I think it was Alves who flagged up Astana earlier in the week and it's difficult to look past them. They are pretty experienced at this level and are unbeaten in the Champions League at home having faced the likes of Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Celtic and Galatasaray.
Danish champions Midtjylland though impressed in the Europa League last season and netted in all eight of their games. I fancy Astana to win but both sides could score.
Basel are clearly a better side than PAOL but this is a tough trip for the Swiss whose campaign started last weekend with a Super League defeat to St Gallen. Basel have never been knocked out at this stage and the price for them not to lose is a tempting 11-10 with bet365. Again btts has a chance.
Could also be goals in the games between Shkendija v FC Sheriff and Dinamo Zagreb v Hapoel Beer Sheva but I'm completing the treble with Legia Warsaw at home to Spartak Trnava.
Legia cruised past Irish champions Cork 4-0 in the previous round but have started the season with a Super Cup defeat to Arka and league loss against Zaglebie.
However, they should be too experienced for a Spartak outfit competing in the CL for the first time after a debut Slovakian league success. They struggled past Bosnians Zrinjski 2-1 in the first round.
I've added a Betfred Cup treble even though it's a tournament to be careful with as there have been plenty of surprise results.
I'm backing Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock to cover the -1 handicap at Albion Rovers and Spartans respectively as well as Ayr, with two wins in two, at home to Stenhousemuir.

I’ve been having my usual summer lull on the betting front. However, I’m slowly starting to get myself back into the groove of things ahead of the new season starting in a few weeks, so I’ll give Tuesday’s efforts a post here.
Seems a lot has been posted about Astana, and I like the look of Shkendija too. Very strong at home and opponents Sheriff conceded twice in defeat away to an average Georgian outfit in the previous qualifying round.

A little early season form indicates that there could be goals between these two sides. Both Burghausen and Illertissen have seen goals at both ends in their pre-season friendlies too, with Illertissen particularly impressing in a 3-3 draw with Stuttgart and netting in a 3-1 defeat to Basel. That’s 4 games apiece since the little summer break (2 friendlies, 2 league games) with BTTS and Overs landing in all of them. Both clearly have an eye for a goal and a leakiness at the rear, so I’ll chance a reduced stake.

One friendly tomorrow perhaps worth looking out for is Willington v Spennymoor. Spennymoor trashed a Billingham side 11-1 in a friendly a week ago. By all accounts, it seems that Willington play their football in the 10th tier of English football – a direct regional division below Billingham (9th tier). National League North side Spennymoor have played two ties against stronger opposition (Middlesborough, Hartlepool) where the manager wanted to ‘get his side organised’. He mentioned also that they had organised friendlies to see his ‘attackers get some goals’ – I can only assume he means the Billingham game, their 2-2 draw with Scarborough and perhaps Tuesday night’s friendly with Willington.
Always a big risk that Spennymoor might not field a strong side, or be at it, but on those form lines they should score a few. O2.5 goals is set at 2/7 (Bet365) but you can get a bigger line via the betbuilder.
I’m having a go, but I recommend seeing if it appears in-play with a goal line at O3.5 or so.

Albion have appointed a junior manager and filled the team with mostly junior players. Thistle should be far too strong for them. Stranraer have lost 1 and drew 1 so far this season but they did net 3 times away to Championship side Queen of the South before holding Motherwell to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.
