THE TPC Summerlin is the host for the 10th consecutive time for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
The desert course is regularly rated as the hardest to split fairways on the Tour. Last year it was ranked 11th in toughest in scrambling. The greens are large bentgrass surfaces and are prepared to run at 11.5 on the stimpmeter.
Last week my selection Chesson Hadley couldn’t get close to eventual winner Ryan Armour but still showed he is in the groove. The problem is with his form of late is he going to crash and burn or carry on and win his second PGA Title, his first being in the Puerto Rico Open in 2014.
This weekend could be that moment. In the second half of last season Hadley won twice on the Web.com Tour and in his first two tournaments this season on the PGA Tour as finished T3 and second. I’m going to take a chance on him because he is consistent at the moment. Scrambling: 67.53% (5th), Putting Average: 1.743 (21st).
Tony Finau had a great end to last season when finishing T7 in the BMW and followed up with the same result in the next week in the Tour Championship. He looks to be continuing that form this season with a second in the Safeway Open and a superb T11 in the WGC-HSBC.
He has two top 20s and a scoring average of 68.33 in 12 rounds at TPC Summerlin. His only win on the PGA Tour was also at the Puerto Rico Open (2016). A lot of people had high hopes for him last year but although he had eight top 10ss he just couldn’t get into the top pack. Could be his time. Scrambling: 58.11% (105th), Putting Average: 1.711 (34th).
