Been waiting on news to see if both Gasol brothers were in the final Spanish squad before making my decision on this and only pau is in the final squad. Just a 2 horse race this competition between France and Spain in my opinion you could possibly consider serbia as dark horses but they are a team full of bigs and lack any playmakers. The French have the best all round team in this completion led by Tony Parker and have Nicolas Batum of the Blazers who I think might get MVP , Boris Diaw , Rudy Gobert, Evan Fournier and other NBA players. The amount of players the French have playing at the top level in my opinion gives them the edge over the Spanish who apart from Gasol and Mirotic (i feel is a poor player anyway) are Spanish domestic league players. It is also worth noting when when these two went h2h at the world championships last year France defeated Spain in a game where they were without Tony Parker and the Spanish were at full strength will both gasol brothers and Ibaka playing. Since the last eurobasket in 2013 France have only lost one game and are a strong bet here.
Going to have to back old ‘rusty’ Hewitt to take down the much younger Aussie Bernard Tomic.
Tomic is passive enough to mean Hewitt will get a decent shot at this, and you can guarantee he will leave everything on the court in what is his last U.S. Open appearance. The same cannot be said for Tomic, who is a very steady if unspectacular baseliner, who has a habit of being disengaged at times.
There will be a lot of long rallies in this one. Tomic easily has the better serve, and if he’s making a high number life might be quite tricky for Lleyton, but I back him to wear Tomic down often enough to be competitive here.

I’m also considering a go on Fabio Fognini. Schwartzman gave Rafa a bit of a scare, despite the realtively comfy looking score line. And Schwartzman is not a top player, and has a pretty feeble serve, which you really need to be able to consolidate breaks against Rafa.
Fabio isn’t a huge server but it’s a weapon when its firing, and he has enough attacking instincts in him to take it to Rafa, who is playing some worringly passive tennis of late. Fab also has a couple of wins this year over Rafa to draw on.
It would of course be daft to put much money on him, as he’s as likely to crumble 3-0 as he is to win, but 3/1 for someone as talented as him against the Rafa of right now is too tempting for me to leave alone entirely. Smallish stakes advised, with an eye to following in play to see how switched on Fabio is, and how many errors are flying of Rafa’s racket (I think it might be quite a lot!)

wobbled at the start of that set, nervy and tight, but mannarino can still win this for sure. Matching up well, it tends to be steady players who construct points well and dont make mistakes that break murray down sometimes, a la simon and coric, and if mannarino gets back to his level from set 1 and 2 it should be enough to get him over the line. belief is the x factor here though.
