    Timeform comments:

Kazziana (5 out of 5 stars): Expected to build on promise of Nottingham (10f) debut a month ago and duly confirmed as much when scoring (unchallenged) at Kempton (1m) 2 weeks ago. Open to further improvement now handicapping.
Race commentary: KAZZIANA improved on debut form when scoring unchallenged at Kempton recently, so she gets the nod to make a winning handicap debut with improvement highly likely. Moonlight Sonata is in good hands and is feared, along with Midas Haze and Devonshire Place.

  16. Dariusz 2 years ago

Lucky Diva (4 out of 5 stars): Lightly raced for her age and twice successful at this venue. Working her way back to form of late and is on a handy mark if building on that.
Race commentary: CAMELEY DAWN found the extended 2m taxing her stamina here on her latest start, but shaped as if in decent heart nonetheless, so she gets the nod in a tricky staying handicap. Lucky Diva is closely matched with the selection, and is feared most.

Cheers again Jb for today. One comment I would like to make is about the odds and points up on this site. For the NAP / NB above it was practically impossible to get 2/1, now 5/4 most places, this I find is a common theme with many selections. For example a 5/1 horse will usually be 3/1 buy the time it is up. This is not reflected in the points up or down. Not hating btw a huge fan of JBs and he has won me a good bit of cash over the past year. Would love to hear other regular commenters opinion.

    Cheers DENZEL

DENZEL, it’s not Johnb’s fault prices crash.
He is quite right to quote the odds he sees when he puts the tip up – that’s how it works.

For what it’s worth, I haven’t really had an issue with the crashing prices. I tend to refresh the thread every 15 mins or so after 5pm and as a result I’m able to obtain the price johnb quotes or very close to it. I understand why most people aren’t in a position to repeatedly check the thread though.
There are instances where he’s actually quoted prices that have been below those attainable elsewhere due to timings or thread sponsorships. In an odd way I actually like to see the money start to come for Johnb’s tips before I back. I don’t believe his tips alone are enough to collapse a price so a falling price can act as an extra level of reassurance.
Either way, the e-mail alert idea does sound like a great addition to the site.
Keep up the good work Johnb!

When I posted today’s tips betvictor virtually slashed the odds straight away on Kazziana, coral were only 2/1 for about 5 mins after I posted, but hills did keep their 15/8 available for a while
But in most cases the odds are usually available for about an hour,
The problem with Kazziana was as I said it wasn’t hard to pick her and most people today will have her as a Nap and when that’s the case the money comes for a horse

  30. Johnb 2 years ago

In KAZZIANA’s race there is a 10p rule 4 for bets placed before 8:07am

  34. dougiec 2 years ago

Talking of shortening prices Brian Ellisons Maheldramatic..4.40 into 7/2 from 11/2, first run under rules, probably got a
lift from Lucinda and with Top Spin out of the 7.40..Dream Bolt available at 11/2.

  35. Johnb 2 years ago

On some horses I know it’s hard trying to get a price and on occasions when I see that, then I will adjust my stats which I have in the past,
I always try to make my stats as realistic as possible
If the double was successful today then I had decided last night to change the odds to 10.81/1 which is 7/2 & 13/8
This is because betvictor who I advised the double with did change the odds quickly

Odds in racing can change really quickly and with so many people on this thread it’s understandable as there are more people on here than just the ones that comment

Mr F just out of curiosity how many hits a day does it get?

As Johnb mentioned the other day about non runners no surprise to see Doc Charm out.500 mile round trip for £2000,you wouldn’t want to “eat up” with that trip.R Cowell had 6 entered for the race and see a few have tipped Rainbow Orse,so best of luck today.I have backed a few already tipped here so my other main bet today is
Dolphin Rock..5.50,Ford rare visitor at Bath and known for his shrewd placings.
The very best to everyone today.

  38. PeteT 2 years ago

    @Denzel

    Interesting point regarding the prices.

Curiously, of all the tipsters I’ve followed, John B tends to have the most time between posting and prices being affected.

Take for example Hugh Taylor from ATR (year told date his advised price profits are in the same region as John’s – actually John’s are slightly better). Hugh has advised a 1pt bet on a 10/1 shot this morning which was advised around 30 minutes ago. The price is now in the region of 13/2 at Bet365 (slightly better prices advised on the exchanges). The prices of horses he posts are almost never available 5 mins after he posts (meaning that the advised profits he throws out there are pretty much impossible to achieve).

I guess being a much higher profile tipster (JohnB is one of our best kept secrets!) it means that Hugh Taylor’s 18,000 twitter followers hammer the value out of tips quite quickly.

John B’s horses (the good ones) do get knocked down (and we also get rule 4’s like today) but the %age hit is no where like the pricewise column, Hugh Taylor columns etc. That said, if you get on the horses within a couple of hours you can normally get near the price John advises (unless it’s a day like today where his NAP is a firm choice for lots of people). Curiously though, Lucky Diva has drifted out (so it does work both ways!).

What it probably means that if John B returns 100 points profit on advised prices you may only get 95 points over the same period (but that’s still 95 points profit!). By comparison, following other tipsters I think you’d see a much bigger gap between advised and actual profits so we don’t do too badly with JohnB!

Just my opinions on the matter :)

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 2 years ago

PeteT, it’s an interesting comment. Hugh Taylor is a long established tipster working for a much bigger operation than us.
Punters will back his tips blindly so no matter what he puts up will be cut right away.
It’s the same with Steve Palmer’s golf tips in the Racing Post.
If you buy a paper today there’s no way you’ll get the prices he has quoted on his main selections.
My main yesterday was Johnb can’t do anything but quote the odds he sees when posting – whatever happens after that is outwith his hands.

      • PeteT 2 years ago

        Mr F

        Agree with everything you say.

I personally don’t back Hugh Taylor’s tips because the value goes so quickly (although I do follow from an interest point of view). Generally he loses 20% – 30% on advised odds within 15 minutes of posting (sometimes sooner!).

My real point is that advised prices do change (and as you say Hugh Taylor works for a much more established organisation) but John B’s change less than most (and you definitely have a bigger window to play with). That’s great for us on the site and means that our profit for the year is much closer to the figures John B advises (point in case – my profits following John B daily for the whole year to 31.8 so far is 152 points versus his advised figures of 166 ish points). I’m not going to be glum over 14 points as 152 points in 8 months is pretty much the best I’ve seen from a horse tipper who only advises 0.5 – 2 point stakes.

Anyway – good luck to those betting today :)

    Useful facts about horse racing:
    http://www.drawn2win.co.uk/article24.asp

    4. Horses that are forecast favourites do considerably better if they actually start as favourite.
    – Horses that are forecast favourite and are favourite at the “off” (favourite at SP) win 34.5% of their races.
    – Horses that are forecast favourite and are not favourite at the “off” win only 17.8% of their races.
    – Looking into this is more depth – horses that are forecast favourite and end up NOT in the top 3 of the betting market at the “off” see their win percentage drop to 9.9%.

Early price markets are always subject to signifcant change. JohnB has every right to take the price at the time he puts the tip up. He has to find a bet every day of the week and still makes a very decent profit.

Personally I don’t always follow the level stake method and if a horse has been smashed I will adjust my stake accordingly.

I’m sure that even taking SP you would still be well up backing the tips blindly.
