Oct 26: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

Racing_WilliamHill

JOHNB had a 5pt profit on Tuesday thanks to his double-stake tip Italian Riviera at 7-2.

Our man, now 7.93pts up for October, says: “Polish Empress, who was advised eachway at 40-1, was gambled down to 9-4 but a very late withdrawal proved costly as she could only finish 3rd, the late withdrawal meant it was only two places.

“Italian Riviera is one to keep note of because she did run a decent race considering she ran very green again and was slow away but she did run on well at the finish.”

Johnb says: “I have already advised Churchill for next year’s 2000 Guineas & Derby – he has been really impressive this season and my view is he will get even better next year.

“Blue Point on the other hand is harder to call for how he will progress next year. If he trains on then in my view it’s a straight fight between Blue Point & Churchill but in the Derby Churchill is the only horse for me – he gives me the same excitement as Golden Horn did.

“But to answer my question earlier the most impressive horse I have seen this year is BLUE POINT with Churchill and Annie Power a close second and third.”

Yeah a bit disappointing but more disappointed with her not settling again as she is better than that, don’t think we will get anywhere near 40/1 next time

Messed up quite a nice E/W double and a single with that withdrawn horse.
A lot of money must have been on Empress especially @33/1 and even @40/1 e/w. The bookie sighs with relief.

What was the reason for the withdrawl?

The horse was at the start and didnt see the stall handlers attempt to put it in the stalls?

    Stewards Report

    Newcastle
    Race 7 – 8:00pm
THE ATR MAIDEN FILLIES’ STAKES (CLASS 5)
The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Starter that ANY JOY (IRE), ridden by Graham Lee, had refused to enter the stalls and was withdrawn. They interviewed, Ben Haslam, the trainer and the Starter. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the start the Stewards informed the trainer that future similar behaviour may result in the filly being reported to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.

The Stewards gave permission for NOFIZZPHOBIA, trained by Derek Shaw, to go to post early. They also noted that ANY JOY (IRE), trained by Ben Haslam, wore earplugs which were removed at the start.

The Stewards considered the running of EQUINETTE (IRE), ridden by Paul Mulrennan and trained by Amanda Perrett, which started favourite but finished unplaced. The Stewards noted the report from the rider that the filly became upset in the stalls and received a further explanation from the trainer’s representative that the filly was in season. They ordered EQUINETTE (IRE) to be routine tested.

Real unlucky with that today John, thanks for the NAP/Nb had a single on it and it was in my Yankee. Had 3/4 in my Yankee Friday,Sunday and Tuesday.
    C’mon the 4/4!
Not had it since…well the last time.

Fancy BAHAMIAN SUNRISE(4.20) for an effort at a hat trick tomorrow at a nice 15/2.
Up 2lb and in against a few better horses but should make a bold bid if running like lto and as I’ve been on him for last 2 wins it be rude not too.

Hello all another long winded question for you, ive been doing the horses now little over a year and have found following some of very profitable ive come to love the the sport if im honest ive also had a few of my own come in but not at the % rates you all hit so i was wondering for me and other novices and people new to the sport. What is it you look for in a horse i.e as it makes it way to loading up ?behavior in the stalls ? how it runs in the race like what do you watch for ? How you no if a horse runs green ? also not to make a fool of myself but how do you spot a well travelling horse often ive watched races seemingly believing a horse to go well only for it to be destroyed. what signs should you look for in how the jockey is riding what is comfortable and what actions show him/her pushing the horse and also what body language the horse should be showing. obviously ive read a few books and online but i see you all practicing what you preach i understand JB if you dont want to or really have the time to answer what i would imagine to be a long answer and apologies if anyone finds this annoying as clearly majority of you must know this off back of your hand id just like to learn what i can and contribute a bit more all the best for today all.

I have studied horses for years now and it was just learning a bit at a time, I sat on horses, I went to a lot of yards at 3am to look at horses on the gallops asking people there what I should be looking for as I was still learning,
It’s hard to explain what it looks like when a horse is traveling well, it all looks smooth,
For a horse running green it’s a bit easier to explain, the horse will have its head up high and moving about from side to side, might not run in a straight line,

A horse can get wound up before a race and might be sweating a lot which is usually a bad sign but occasionally a horse will do it all the time and not affect the performance which is why watching previous races helps,
Behaviour in the stalls, if a horse is playing up then it is using energy unnecessarily rather than a horse standing still.

If you see a horse running and it’s not running well look at the legs because it might just be the ground, if a horse lifts the knees up high it’s like a rounded action then that horse wants soft or heavy ground, if the horse doesn’t lift it’s knees up high and just looks like its gliding over the surface then that horse will want good ground or better
