MY shortlist was extremely short when I ran through the card for the first time this week and that doesn't fill me with confidence.
It suggests it's a tough card and my both to score list outnumbered homes, aways and draws so for those who prefer goals Saturday could be your day.
Both to score favourites include Leicester v Palace, Norwich v West Brom, Blackburn v Burnley, Brighton v Preston, Accrington v Doncaster, Morecambe v Orient, Portsmouth v Mansfield, Dundee v Kilmarnock, Hearts v Ross County, Inverness v St Johnstone and Stenhousemuir v Ayr.
The only one of those evens or above is Brighton v Preston so that goes on with over 3.5 goals at Leicester v Palace.
I've had to dig deep – so deep in fact I've spent some time looking at the William Hill Scottish Cup card and picked out Highland League title contenders Formartine not to lose at home to League Two Clyde.
Here is the full shortlist – every pick is evens or above and taken from my first look at stats and form but without yet checking team news. Let me know your thoughts – positive or negative.
Super Single shortlist
Leicester v Palace over 3.5 goals
Brighton v Preston btts
WEST HAM not to lose v Chelsea
Fulham v READING
BLACKPOOL v Crewe
Bradford v WIGAN
PETERBOROUGH v Doncaster
Dumbarton v FALKIRK
Stenhousemuir v AYR
FORMARTINE not to lose v Clyde
WIGAN at Bradford looks decent shot out.
Interesting game Formartine v Clyde. I know the Formartine manager Kris Hunter quite well having played against him and worked with him. He took over Formartine in the summer and released most of the team! He’s brought in a whole new team and its taking time to gel so i reckon Clyde are a good bet on Saturday.
John Smith, I was hoping someone with more knowledge of the Highland would comment but they’re sitting third in the table so aren’t doing too badly.
Clyde have been seriously hit and miss and you get the impression Barry Ferguson is finding it tough as he’s not used to being at such a small club.
Mr f, they are perhaps viewed as one of the title favs due to the money they have but they just suffered 2 recent defeats against local rivals Inverurie Locos and fellow title favs Cove Rangers. The manager admitted they never really troubled Cove defence but its difficult to guage their level compared to Clyde. Not an easy one to predict.
John Smith, always tough at this stage – as I said takes a lot of research.
Anyway it’s goodnight from me.
Can’t say I’m convinced by a lot of those picks Mr F.
My initial thoughts on a quick run through:
Stoke
QPR over 1.5 TG
Walsall over 1.5 TG
It would also be like Wolves to beat Middlesbrough at 23/10 on Saturday after two shocking performances. I’m not brave enough though.
Those are my initial thoughts with the Walsall bet at 11/10 looking very tasty indeed. Over 2.5 at 13/15 is certainly worth a shout but Walsall haven’t been conceding many.
Hartlepool to win for me. Crawley were truly awful in midweek and Hartlepool unlucky against Barnet (posts hit, balls cleared off line etc)
That one of. Chelsea I won’t go with it almost 30%chances of it to loose
BLACKPOOL vs crewe
Super single to me is Leicester v Palace over 2.5 goals
but for a nap Jamie Vardy to score at any time
zulu, over 2.5 at Leicester is too short – if it’s the Super single it will be over 3.5.
Over 2.5 could be on my goals treble though or btts.
Wycombe v CARLISLE 3/1
Has to be nice in France @5/4 betfred or nice to score 2+@11/8 william hills there flyin at the moment and scoring goals for fun good luck all
Here we go again Brighton/Gills/Cobblers score 2+ around 6/1 Good luck punters!
Wigan for the sat super single. 6/ 4 @ william hill. They are on a great run at the moment.
I’d be looking at Stoke for super single on a good run at min and difficult place to play for opposition
Leicester over 1.5 team goals @ evens. If there is anything like a dead cert in betting then this is one. Leicester over 2.5 team goals worth a chance too…
Dundee United to score before 70 mins 5/4
Gillingham keep winning most weeks and are always overpriced in my opinion..so the single for me is Gillingham at 11/10 at home against Southend(who are no mugs but I still fancy the home side)Have already done Qpr,gillingham, Mancty to score over1:5goals each at 9/1.Qpr should get a couple against Mk dons,Gills are always good at home,&Mancty should get a couple past utds dodgy defence.
Silvan ebanks blake to score anytime for chesterfield. Been scoring goals in the last couple of wks. 6-5 bet365.
Im going against the short list.
Chelsea to win and over 2.5 is 13/8.
That keeps going thru my mind so I best do it
The only thing I have a bit of confidence in tomorrow is that i’ll wake up, but knowing my luck, a plane will land on my house so I won’t be risking as much as a quid on it.
Chris Powell ( Huddersfield gaffer ) and Sean Dyche ( Burnley boss ) were at the Blackburn/Derby game on Wednesday. Luckily they never had to travel far to see a dour game. Derby had a shocker and Blackburn had a good go at us but it was a bore draw. Both teams only being beaten once this term so far. If Burnley have any sense, they’ll go to Blackburn with the hope of sharing the spoils, Blackburn being at home will want all 3, but as I see Burnley and Derby about en-par with eachother ( 0-0 earlier in the season ), the Blackburn/Burnley game in my opinion is highly likely to be a draw. Both managers would probably take a point before a ball is kicked.
I agree with the rest of the card, it looks a wretched fixture list to pick a winner, maybe Brighton ought to win on paper but at 4/5 they’re a tad short, but then again, they did almost slip up midweek, it took an 89th min winner to get all 3 points in their last outing. Preston might suddenly decide they want to stay in this league and put in a performance. Morale vs Morale, you’d have to bet on Brighton, but every team at some point will have a hiccup or two.
