JOHNB made it two great days in a row thanks to two singles and a double.

Prize Money won in the afternoon and later Fly finished fast to make it a double on the date made famous by one Mr McFly. So that’s a 9.13pt profit after a 10pt win on Tuesday.

October is now a 14.78pt loss – much better than it was two days. Well done everyone who kept the faith.

If you’ve made enough Prize Money go out and buy a Delorean.

    Timeform comments:

Arzal (5 out of 5 stars): Useful 2m novice hurdler for this yard last season. Runner-up twice over fences in France prior to that and potentially on a good mark back chasing after a break. Hard to beat.
    Form: 136P1-8
Race commentary: chase, 1m 7f 212y. This sharp test should be ideal for ARZAL and Harry Whittington’s charge, who had experience of chasing in France, is expected to take plenty of pegging back on his return to action. The emphasis on speed might not be quite so suitable for Murrayana, but he was steadily progressive over hurdles last season and might still be the one to chase the selection home.

Mezzotint (5 out of 5 stars): C&D winner. Latest win here 12 days ago. Creditable fourth of 12 in handicap (7/2) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 3 days later, needing stronger gallop. Has good chance on form.
    Form: 048014
Race commentary: flat, 1m. MEZZOTINT saw off bang in-form course specialist Kalon Brama over C&D 12 days ago and was unlucky not to finish much closer at Wolverhampton 3 days later, so needs treating as though still at the top of his game. He therefore can confirm placings with that rival, with Use Your Filbert another to note back from a short break on AW debut.

Sir johnb you are a great man. Delighted things have turned around for ya. A great tipster always shows his true class. Well done mate. Very interested to see how Idaho runs in leopardstown on Sunday. I think il have a small little investment at 25’s

  19. johnb 3 years ago

After having a 33/1 winner the last two years, TAGHROODA 2014 Oaks &
    GOLDEN HORN 2015 Derby

It’s time for my Derby pick for 2016
I normally like to wait till early next season to see how horses come through the winter but because I can see this horses odds being cut a lot before next year, I am going to tip him now

He isn’t 33/1 like Taghrooda & Golden Horn but at 25/1 it’s not far off

    IDAHO (Ire)
    Age: 2 (Foaled March 14th, 2013)
    Sex: Bay Colt
Breeding: Galileo (Ire) – Hveger (Aus)
    Trainer: A P O’Brien
Owner: Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith & Mrs John Magnier

One run so far and one win at the Curragh over 1 mile, beating Jim Bolger’s Theodorico by 3 1/2 lengths
That was over one mile but this horse is bred to be a 1m 4f horse
He races again on the 25th but there is also another horse in the race that I had on my shortlist who needs to improve but should improve
He is called A YEAR TO REMEMBER so will be good to see them race each other but I have to back Idaho now

    2016 Epsom Derby

IDAHO 25/1 Skybet Ladbrokes William Hill Boylesports Betfred

  20. johnb 3 years ago

Winnerallright Foundation is favourite for the Derby but my opinion is there is no chance of him getting the distance
I also want to see how Emotionless comes back from injury but at the moment Idaho is the one to be on but if A Year To Remember also runs at weekend then it’s going to be a very informative clash
The Dosage Index helps and I use it but I also use what I see visually when a horse runs

  21. johnb 3 years ago

For anyone that doesn’t know what the Dosage Index is its a system that uses figures from a horses breeding to give us an idea of what speed and stamina a horse should have.
It’s the only system that I would ever use but I also use what I see personally when a horse runs

Just like Sectional timing is big in America so is the Dosage Index but not enough people in this country use them

On a horses breeding there are five numbers
These five numbers have the names in this order

It is said that a perfect Derby horse will have a

Dosage Index (DI) figure of 1.0

    And a

Centre of distribution (CD) figure of 0

    It’s not 100% but it’s a good guide

    Golden Horn had a (DI) 1.38 & (CD) 0.29

    Australia (DI) 1.0 & (CD) 0.13

Ruler of the World (DI) 1.05 & (CD) 0.26

    Workforce (DI) 1.00 & ((CD) 0.23

    Some of next years horses

    Idaho (DI) 1.20 & (CD) 0.27

    A Year To Remember (DI) 0.93 & (CD) 0.12

    Foundation (DI) 2.60 & (CD) 0.67

Foundation is the favourite for next years Derby but those figures say he can’t win

I will try and explain it all in better detail

  22. johnb 3 years ago

Also meant to say if only the connections of Frankel had been brave enough to run him in the Derby

    Frankel (DI) 0.94 & (CD) 0.10

  27. Luke A 3 years ago

Johnb, well done the last couple days. All the best of luck with turning that deficit around into profit. I have a feeling you may well pull it off!!
One thing I do have to say though, is quit doing yourself out of extra points. If the price you quote is the price available at the exact time you posted your comment, then keep those for your stats. If it shortens within the next 10 minutes so be it. It’s the odds that are available when you post that are the ones that should count (unless of course the SP ends up greater). Otherwise, you should now change your Mezzotint odds to 3/1, and change the odds for double too. Cos at the moment, you’re losing out on points in two ways. I personally think your odds should just be whatever they are when you quote (or SP if bigger) regardless whether they get cut immediately or not

  28. Luke A 3 years ago

You lost out on two points the other day with Caulfields Venture, as you changed your quoted odds to 5/1, even though 6/1 was briefly available after you posted

Alex, 3 days ago people were calling for Johnb’s head – just as we didn’t listen.
All tipsters have good and bad runs but Johnb always bounces back.

      • Alex 3 years ago

Mr F- the way I see it is that it’s my money and I choose to place the bet. If it looses then I have only myself to blame irrespective of the tip. I think we all need to asses the strength of any tip if you are playing for decent money rather than just following blind. I think it’s slightly different if you are playing to level stakes as JohnB will win you that money back and it is less of a liability. I am sure we have always had that really strong feeling that a tip will win before placing a bet. I just wish I only always backed those tips as I would be filthy rich.

Well done johnb with arzal & Gluk later. John that’s great info about the dosage index & how breeding certain type horses & what distances suits them can be calculated etc. For example, Does Golden Horns (DI) figure of 1.38 give reason as to why he was so good at a mile & upwards to the 1m4f Derby distance, due to his great turn of foot speed?

  83. johnb 3 years ago

Winnerallright Golden Horns figures said he would be a 1m to 1m2f horse because 1.38 is a bit high for 1m 4f
You don’t really want a figure above 1.20 but as with Golden Horn I& Frankel it’s all about the horse, I could see Golden Horn would get 1m 4f because of the way he ran
As for Frankel his figures said he was a Derby horse

Mutarajjil (4 out of 5 stars): Foaled April 8. 105,000 gns yearling, Acclamation colt. Half-brother to several winners, including useful winner up to 5f Light The Fire and useful 7f winner Cadley Road. Dam 6f winner
    Form: no history.
Race commentary: flat, 6f 110y. BEDROCK looked very promising when fourth on debut at this venue last month, and though he didn’t build on that in sales company at Newmarket, he’s well worth another chance back in calmer waters. Take The Helm is open to progress after one start, while Mutarajjil is a likely newcomer.

Vintage Vinnie (5 out of 5 stars): Irish point/bumper winner who left hurdles form well behind when easy winner of Worcester maiden on chase bow last month, making all and jumping superbly, Likely to go well.
    Form: 35243-1
Race commentary: chase, 3m 80y. VINTAGE VINNIE made a very good impression when slamming a subsequent winner on chase bow at Worcester last month, jumping superbly from the front, and can make his presence felt in this stronger grade. Ballykan and A Good Skin have also looked chasers to follow and need considering, too.

think the draw beat him johnb what you think

  89. cooldude 3 years ago

John, why is it US jockeys have a completely different riding style compared to their Ireland and england counterparts?
If you watch most US jockeys in a finish, it looks like they are barely applying pressure.

Compare this to a professional english or Irish jockey who can be clearly seen physically lifting their mounts over the finish line.

That is not to say the US jockeys riding style is any worse or better in the long run.
