I HUMMED and hawed about putting up Sporting to win and goal in their Portuguese Cup tie and now I wish I had left it alone.
My plan was to wait for team news but encouraged by HullShaker's valued opinion I took the bet blind and Sporting played a fairly weakened side as they won 1-0.
It was a 1.5pts loss and I don't mind risking small stakes on any bet – it's never nice handing back profit but if you have to then make it small returns.
Greg Browning posted a goals double but I missed it as I sneaked out for a few holes – and I'm pleased to see it was a 13-10 winner.
After the international break we have plenty to look at tonight and I've posted a separate preview of Inverness v Rangers with brief mentions of Cardiff v Bristol City and Nottingham Forest v Birmingham.
Earlier in the week I put up Inverness draw no bet as a Super Single and hopefully that bet will at least be voided.
On the continent there should be plenty of goals when third-placed Borussia Dortmund entertain second-placed Hertha Berlin.
Dortmund have won their three home games in the Bundesliga and netted 11 goals while Hertha have conceded three at Eintracht Frankfurt and three at Bayern Munich in their last two away games. However, the home side have injury problems so are a bit short at 3-10 at Betfred and so I'm going with both to score as Hertha have netted on three of their last four visits to Dortmund with two wins.
In La Liga it's Las Palmas v Espanyol and this should be a home win for a side who have started the season well against opponents who have one win in six. Las Palmas to win or to score 2+ should come in.
In France leaders Nice tackle Lyon and second-placed Monaco travel to Toulouse. Nice are boosted the availability of Mario Balotelli after his red card against Lorient was rescinded. He has hit six goals in five games and is 8-5 at Coral to net again.
This is a tough one to call and I'd prefer to focus on Toulouse v Monaco which should see both teams score. Monaco netted seven at Metz last time out and Toulouse have won all three at home this season, including a defeat of champions PSG.

One of my favourite leagues, the A-league is back and after watching the opening weekend I’m happy to start placing bets on it.
Adelaide vs western Sydney
Last week’s game with Adelaide didn’t exactly tick all the boxes in terms of goals and it’s not a surprise considering they lost two of there top goalscorers from last season and it was quite noticeable as the strike force hasn’t gelled yet and don’t really look like they know each others game. Sergi Gaurdiola looks like he could be a quality player, he has the typical Spanish technical ability and if he gets chances he will tuck away a few in this league but his teammates need to find him on the pitch, however they do have Henriquie Silva a player with A-league experience and he looked very lively last week and against a western Sydney side that shipped in 4 in its last two games one being in the FFC cup I can’t see them keeping a clean sheet this week.

Our good friends the bookies rarely get it wrong but it does happen and I can’t agree with the pricing for this one.
DYJ are 23/20 to bag the points here and 365 go 13/5 for an away win. I just can’t see (failing momentous team news – nothing on Twitter,etc) what merits the home side being so far ahead in the betting.
They have played 5, lost 2 and drawn 3 so far and offered little in terms of threat although they hit 3 in a 6 goal draw with River Plate.
Banfield have hardly set the world on fire but they’ve shown a bit more mettle with 1 loss, 2 draws and 2 wins as well as a good few goals scored for good measure.
I suspect this may be where the potential value is: Banfield have scored in all but one fame so far with 1 goal in 2 games but finding the target 3 times 2 of their last 3 games.

This is such an interesting comment. I’m finding that as time goes on there seems to be fewer goals in all leagues/comps. I’d like to get hold of stats for, say, the goals scored in England & Scotland main divisions over the last few years and see if players are netting more infrequently. I’m sure there’s been fewer scored as time cracks on. Is it that teams have become more defensive generally and less adventurous going forward?
